X-Files Sequel – Early News and Rumors

The yet-to-be-named X-Files sequel began filming last week in Vancouver, British Columbia and fans around the world rejoiced (myself included!).  Sure, we can see David Duchovny on Californication (for which he was recently nominated for an Emmy) and Gillian Anderson has been named the new host of Masterpiece Theatre but it’s just not the same.  I want – no, I need - to see Special Agents Fox Mulder and Dana Scully.  I had just finished rewatching all of the seasons (I started in July) when the movie was announced and I almost wept real tears.  I do have some minor complaints but overall, I’m very excited.

Even though the script is being kept a tightly guarded secret, we do know some things about the movie.

Some fans are a bit put off by the fact that this movie is going to be a standalone.  It won’t go into the complicated mytharc for which the series is best known.  That’s right – no Smoking Man, no black oil and no alien rebellion.  It leaves me wondering what the movie is going to be about at all.  Also, it has been announced that Amanda Peet, Xzibit and Billy Connolly will be in it but there hasn’t been any mention of Robert Patrick (Agent Doggett), Annabeth Gish (Agent Reyes) or Mitch Pileggi (A.D. Skinner).

What I really want to know (aside from any cast announcements) is: are Mulder and Scully now a couple? Are they going to search for William (their son)?  What happened to Gibson Praise?  Will Mulder develop a relationship with his half-brother, Jeffrey Spender, after her testified to save him in military court???  There’s so much more and so many directions that this movie can take (without going into the original mythology) and I’m already thinking of possible sequels to this sequel!

I’m so excited but I’m also nervous.  We all want these answers, I’m sure, and I don’t want to leave the theater disappointed after all of these years of anticipation.  I am happy to see that David is back to looking very attractive.  Gillian is still on vacation and is expected to join the cast after the holidays.
