"Valkyrie" Preview & Trailer
September 29, 2008 by Jane Boursaw
Ever since I heard about this movie, I thought, oh great, another movie with Tom Cruise doing his Tom Cruise thing. But given the intense subject matter — along with Tom Cruise doing his Tom Cruise thing — it could actually work.
It doesn’t hurt that it’s directed by Bryan Singer and also stars Kenneth Branagh, Bill Nighy, Patrick Wilson, Terence Stamp, and Tom Wilkinson. You can’t ask for a better team.
More after the jump, including a trailer…
It’s based on the true story of Colonel Claus von Stauffenberg (Cruise) and his ingenious plot to eliminate Hitler from the face of the earth. A loyal officer who serves his country, he ends up joining the German resistance and uses Hitler’s own emergency plan – known as Operation Valkyrie – and plots to assassinate the dictator and overthrow the Nazi government from the inside. Rated PG-13 for violence and brief strong language. In theaters Dec. 26, 2008.
Interesting note: I just read in People Magazine that Cruise’s eyepatch took some getting used to and made him nauseous at first.

This is a great film historically and for the most part the acting is superb, but why was there not a German accent implemented in Tom Cruises character?
I thoroughly enjoyed Valkyrie subject matter. I would have liked to see a better character in Tom Cruise but other than that it was great!
I HYPED Valkyrie on EverHYPE and scored it 93%, which I think is very accurate.
