"Time of My Life": Development Watch

June 9, 2008 by Jane Boursaw

timeoflifecover I’ve been eagerly following the journey of my pal and fellow writer, Allison Winn Scotch, whose books include The Department of Lost and Found (William Morrow, 2007) and the upcoming Time of My Life (Random House, Oct 2008).

The big news this morning is a sweet story in Variety about the upcoming movie deal for “Time of My Life.” The Weinstein Co. has acquired screen rights to the novel, with Meryl Poster producing through her Superb Entertainment banner.

The story revolves around a 30-something housewife who gets a chance to go back in time and explore any lingering doubts and “what ifs” had she not settled down.

“This is a realistic fairy tale that speaks to women today,” Poster told Daily Variety. The project reunites Poster with Harvey Weinstein. She served as Miramax’s president of production and shepherded such films as Emma, The Cider House Rules, Chocolat and Cold Mountain to the big screen.

In a press release last week, Weinstein said, “We are thrilled to be finally working again with Meryl and thankful she has brought us this incredible project. Scotch’s writing is both outright honest and at the same time comically engaging. She provides a strong female voice with characters that easily relate to the screen. Considering our strong track record with Meryl, we are very excited to begin moving this project forward. There is no finer film executive that can single out talent and maximize theatrical potential.

Meanwhile, Allison calls the whole process “surreal.” Hang on, baby. This is just the beginning!
