Tim Roth Signs for "Skellig"

Even though I know who Tim Roth is, I had to check his IMDB page and see what movies he’s done.

He’s one of those quirky actors who’s done a lot of off-the-wall films — To Kill a King, The Beautiful Country, Battle of the Brave…films most people have probably never heard of. He played Maj. Emil Blonsky in The Incredible Hulk, and it’s one of the more commercial films he’s done.

Now he’s set to star in Skellig, a feature-length drama based on the award-winning children’s book by David Almond. The film tells the story of a young boy who befriends a creature that is half-owl, half angel (played by Roth) after he moves to a new home following the birth of his baby sister, who is seriously ill.

More after the jump…

The movie will also star Kelly MacDonald and John Simm. It’ll be filmed on location in Cardiff, Wales, with Caerphilly Castle, Wenalt Woods in the Caerphilly Mountains, and Canada Lakes in Llantrisant providing some of the landscapes and vistas for a modern British fairytale. Sounds beautiful!

The film will air on Sky1 and Sky HD in Spring 2008, with theatrical distribution later.
