"The Soloist" Pushed Back

October 22, 2008 by Jane Boursaw

soloist1 There’s been a ton of movie release dates being pushed around, including “The Soloist,” starring Robert Downey, Jr. and Jamie Foxx as two guys who form a special relationship over music. Foxx plays a homeless, gifted musician. Downey, Jr. plays a reporter who becomes his friend.

The film was originally scheduled for a Dec. 12, 2008 release date, but has been pushed back to March 31, 2009. Wow, that’s quite a move. You’ve gotta think this really goofs up all the publicity and what-not surrounding the original release date.

It also means the film won’t premiere at the AFI Fest 2008 on Oct. 30, as originally planned. I mean, that’s only a couple weeks away! I guess the Fest is scrambling for another movie, and they’ll announce it tomorrow.

  1. I loved the book this movie is based on (”The Soloist” by LA Times reporter Steve Lopez) so this news has me concerned. I really hope this push back doesn’t mean that there’s problems with the film itself. Mostly I hope they don’t screw up the telling of the story by making a bad movie.
