"The Incredible Hulk": Guest Review by David Kindervater, EMQB.com

My blogging buddy, David Kindervater, had the opportunity to see an early screening of The Incredible Hulk, and offered to review it here on Gecko.

Check it out below, and be sure to visit David’s site, Every Morning Quarterback (EMQB.com).

The unbridled force of rage known as The Hulk on the streets of New York in an all-new, explosive and action-packed epic of one of the most popular Super Heroes of all time—THE INCREDIBLE HULK.

Hulk smash! And that’s pretty much all you need to know. After 138 minutes of being pummeled by Dr. Bruce Banner’s nine-foot, 1,500-pound alter-ego, I left the theatre smiling at the action-packed, epic summer popcorn blockbuster that was The Incredible Hulk.

You know the story. Scientist Bruce Banner (Ed Norton) desperately hunts for a cure to the gamma rays that poisoned his cells and turned him into a green giant. Cut off from the life he once knew and the woman he loved (Betty Ross, played by the beautiful Liv Tyler), Bruce spends his days avoiding arch nemesis General Thunderbolt Ross (William Hurt) and the military machinery that seeks to capture him and exploit his power. A new adversary — The Abomination — enters the picture, and Dr. Banner must decide to ultimately accept a peaceful life as himself or find heroism in the creature he holds inside. I think you know what he decides.

Certainly the movie has more brawn than brains, but Ed Norton’s reported script-tinkering couldn’t have hurt the final outcome. Still, I’m left nitpicking things like Hulk’s disproportionately puny head atop his massive body. And how the heck his pants do not rip at the waist when he becomes Hulk? And the fact that he just plain looks like Shrek on steroids. Nevertheless, “The Incredible Hulk” is exactly what I expected — a fun, action/destruction/mayhem and special effects ride you don’t need to think about much. Just smash!
