"The Dark Knight" Heads to Theaters…Again

December 5, 2008 by Jane Boursaw

the-dark-knight-batman Well, hey, if a movie does really well the first time around, why not release it in theaters again? That’s what Warner Bros. is doing with “The Dark Knight,” which is heading back to theaters and IMAX on Jan. 23, 2009.

In a press release, Warner Bros. suit Dan Fellman says, “The Dark Knight is a crowning achievement in every sense of the word. We wanted to provide one more opportunity for moviegoers to experience it on the big screen as it was meant to be seen.”

Ok, so obviously, this is an opportunity for those who missed the summer blockbuster to see the film in theaters. But let’s face it. It’s also the studio’s last-ditch effort to get “The Dark Knight” recognized for Oscar contention. Likewise, the re-release will easily push the overall gross to more than one billion dollars. The film currently stands at $996.1 worldwide.

What about you? Will you plop down another ten bucks to see “The Dark Knight” in theaters again? If my 14-year-old son has anything to say about it (and he does), we’ll be seeing it again.

I can’t wait for this to come out again. A theater at the mall by my house recently got IMAX and me and a big group of friends are definitely seeing it opening night.
