DVD Review: ‘Ice Age 3: Dawn of the Dinosaurs’ – Cute with great animation

They’ve really mined everything they can out of these "Ice Age" movies, haven’t they? That’s not to say they’re not cute and fun and all that stuff. Just that maybe they’ve come to the end of the line on these particular characters and stories. Then again, they’ve added a few new characters in this movie, and let’s face it, they’re just at the dawn of the dinosaurs, which means this franchise could go on into infinity.
The first movie, 2002’s "Ice Age," was definitely the best. The second, 2006’s "Ice Age: The Meltdown," was cute, and this one is …read more

Check out the production blog for … Paul

It’s always fun to learn what goes on behind the scenes of a movie, especially one that looks as funny as “Paul,” starring Simon Pegg and Nick Frost.
It’s a comedy about two British sci-fi geeks who take an RV road trip to the center of America’s UFO heartland: Nevada’s infamous Area 51. In the middle of the desert, the two buddies encounter a fugitive alien by the name of Paul (Seth Rogen), and reluctantly embark on an adventure that will change everything.
The cast also includes Kristen Wigg, Bill Hader, Jane Lynch, Jason Bateman, Sigourney Weaver, Blythe Danner …read more

Star Trek – Review (Reboot takes off at warp speed)

Movie: Star Trek * Trailer * Official Site Film Gecko Links
In Theaters: May 8, 2009

Runtime: 126 minutes
Directed by: J.J. Abrams

MPAA Rating: PG-13 for sci-fi action and violence, and brief sexual content
Gecko Rating:

It’s not often you get a reboot that takes you right back into the story and characters without being cheesy. But "Star Trek" manages to do just that. Under J.J. Abrams’ skillful directing, the movie is funny, sweet, and engaging, with good special effects that keep you hooked through to the end. I wasn’t sure he’d be able to pull it off, but he did.
The story takes …read more

Zoe Saldana, Chris Pine at the Star Trek UK Premiere

I’m sure the “Star Trek” gang must be getting burned out by all the premieres! Or maybe not. Maybe they’re loving all the globe-trotting and appearances.

Star Trek – Trailer 3 Offers a Few More Clues

My mom is the biggest “Star Trek” fan I know, so we grew up watching the original series, and then every series that came after it. Out of all the shows and movies, I have a soft spot for “Star Trek: The Next Generation.” I know those characters the best, and Wil Wheaton (Wesley Crusher) has even become a friend (We’re friends, aren’t we, Wil? Did you get the Guinness I FedEx’d to your house?).
Needless to say, I’m really looking forward to the upcoming “Star Trek” movie, and seeing director J.J. Abrams’ vision of how it all began. “Star …read more

“Changeling,” “Body of Lies” on DVD – Feb. 17, 2009

New on DVD this week is a diverse bunch of movies, everything from Clint Eastwood’s “Changeling” to Greg Kinnear’s “Flash of Genius,” one of my favorite movies from last year. Take a look:
Flash of Genius. Greg Kinnear stars as Bob Kearns, the man who invented the intermittent windshield wiper in the 1960s, then had to fight to earn recognition for it. It wasn’t about the money; it was the principle of the thing![Film Gecko Review] [Official Site]
Changeling. Angelina Jolie stars as a single mom who isn’t all that thrilled when her missing son is returned. Because it’s not him. …read more

Simon Pegg and Nick Frost in for "Tintin"?

Simon Pegg revealed to the The Sunday Times back in September that Steven Spielberg had asked he and Nick Frost to play the Thompson Twins in "Tintin."
At the time, it sounded more like a rumor than anything, but Ain’t It Cool News is reporting that it’s a done deal: "According to a reliable source not at all involved in the production, those rumblings we heard last fall about Simon Pegg and Nick Frost being cast as the Thomson and Thompson were right on the money. They’re in."
Ok, these guys don’t exactly look like twins (they’re pictured, in "Shaun of …read more

J.J. Abrams: That’s a Wrap for "Star Trek" Next Week

J.J. Abrams posted a note on the “Star Trek” Facebook page that the movie is a wrap as of next week. Read his note after the pic…

We’re just making final tweaks to the movie — we should be totally locked next week. Then we’re going to flash-freeze it so it’s totally fresh for you in May. I can’t wait for you to see the movie. The cast is awesome. The action and effects pushed the stunt team and ILM beyond their limits. I’m so grateful to this cast and crew — and to all of you for your interest …read more
