‘Avatar’ earns $1 billion worldwide! James Cameron crowned King of the World again!

James Cameron must be feeling like the King of the World! right about now. "Avatar" has made $1.02 billion dollars worldwide in just three weeks. And it topped the domestic box office again, as well. That rumored $500 million budget is paying off bigtime for Cameron and his investors.
I’m not surprised. It really is a great movie, even though moviegoers are having a love/hate relationship with Avatar’s political/environmental message.
Here’s the rundown on the weekend numbers:
1. "Avatar" ($68.3 million)
2. "Sherlock Holmes" (38.4 million)
3. "Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel" ($36.6 million)
4. "It’s Complicated" ($18.7 million)
5. "The Blind …read more

Review: Sherlock Holmes

Movie: Sherlock Holmes * Trailer * Official Site
In Theaters: Dec. 25, 2009

Runtime: 128 minutes
Directed by: Guy Ritchie

MPAA Rating: PG-13 for intense sequences of violence and action, some startling images and a scene of suggestive material
Gecko Rating:

QUICK TAKE: Love the setting of 1890s London, and Robert Downey, Jr., Jude Law and Rachel McAdams are all fantastic actors. But the storyline drags a bit in spots.
FULL REVIEW: I saw “Sherlock Holmes” yesterday with a theater full of Christmas moviegoers. I was surprised that so many people came out, but like me, they probably wanted to get their fill of Robert Downey, …read more

Robert Downey, Jr. and Jude Law talk ‘Sherlock Holmes’

We always see a movie on Christmas Day, and this year, we’re planning on seeing “Sherlock Holmes.” For one thing, it’s rated PG-13, so it’ll be fine for my kids, 12 and 15. And it just looks like a fun movie.
Paul Byrne from Movies.ie talked with co-stars Robert Downey, Jr. and Jude Law about the homoerotic relationship between Holmes and Watson. Bromance to the max! Watch the trailer here.

The stars shone brightly at the premiere for “Sherlock Holmes,” director Guy Richie’s take on the classic story by Arthur Conan Doyle.
The movie opens in theaters on Dec. 25, 2009, which is a great Christmas present for all of us, with Robert Downey, Jr. in the title role and Jude Law as his assistant John Watson.
Take a look at the stars – they all look quite dashing, don’t they?

‘Iron Man 2’ Poster revealed

“Iron Man 2” hits theaters May 7, 2010, and Paramount and Marvel officially released the teaser poster today, showing War Machine standing next to Iron Man. While I’m skeptical that the second movie will surpass the first in any way, shape or form, the poster does look pretty cool.
I’ve also heard that a teaser trailer will run in front of “Sherlock Holmes,” which arrives in theaters Dec. 25, 2009. Robert Downey, Jr. must be on some trip headlining all these great movies.
What do you think of the poster? I’m betting we’ll get to see character posters showing Whiplash …read more

New TV Spot for ‘Sherlock Holmes’

Here’s a new TV spot for "Sherlock Holmes," in theaters Dec. 25, 2009. Of course, they’d make us wait until the very END of the year to see Robert Downey, Jr. play the famed detective, with Jude Law as his able assistant Watson. A bromance like no other.
Rachel McAdams stars as Irene Adler, a woman who has a tempestuous relationship with Holmes. Mark Strong stars as their mysterious new adversary, Blackwood, and Kelly Reilly will play Watson’s love interest, Mary.
I really can’t wait to see this movie, and will probably go on Christmas Day — after all the …read more

Robert Downey, Jr. and Jude Law in the ultimate buddy movie – watch the new trailer for Sherlock Holmes

The combination of Robert Downey, Jr., Jude Law, and Rachel McAdams in the ultimate buddy movie set in Old World Europe is very enticing. It’s got everything, including plenty of action, romance and swashbuckling. Not to mention RDJ without a shirt. That’s what I call a movie.
“Sherlock Holmes” opens in theaters Dec. 25, 2009, and follows the adventures of the famed detective (Downey, Jr.) and his partner John Watson (Law).
Sherlock Holmes 101: He’s a fictional character of the late 19th and early 20th centuries, created by British author and physician Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. Holmes is a brilliant London-based …read more

Is Warners jumping the gun with a Sherlock Holmes sequel?

Is Warners jumping the gun with a Sherlock Holmes sequel?

The release of “Sherlock Holmes” is still three months away (it hits theaters Dec. 25, 2009 – I know what our traditional family Christmas movie will be this year!), but a sequel is already in the works.
I guess they’re expecting gigantic box office numbers, and I hope they’re right. Footage of the film played well at Comic-Con, so maybe they’re banking on that.
In the new pic, Brad Pitt is in talks to star as Holmes’ nemesis Moriarty, and Warner Brothers is set to bring on Kieran and Michele Mulroney to pen the draft. They’re the writers behind …read more

Guy Ritchie adds martial arts to Sherlock Holmes

Guy Ritchie adds martial arts to Sherlock Holmes

When I think of “Sherlock Holmes,” the image of martial arts doesn’t automatically spring to mind. But director Guy Ritchie says he wanted a contemporary feel to the film starring Robert Downey, Jr. as the detective and Jude Law as his sidekick Watson. And, apparently, Holmes was a kick-ass fighter!
Ritchie talks about adding martial arts to the film (“we have the technology now”), while still keeping it authentic.
