I know the SAG Awards were a while back, but Betty White’s acceptance speech for her Life Achievement Award was so adorable. Here it is, in case you missed it. She’s such a gem.
‘The Hurt Locker’ picks up Critics’ Choice Award for Best Picture
January 16, 2010 by Jane Boursaw
Kathryn Bigelow is having a great year so far. For that matter, Summit Entertainment is having a great couple of years. They’re like the little movie studio that could.
At the Critics’ Choice Awards on Friday, Bigelow was named best director, and her film, the Iraq war drama “The Hurt Locker” from Summit, nabbed a best picture award.
Prelude to the Golden Globes and Oscars? We’ll know soon, as the Golden Globes airs tomorrow night.
“Crazy Heart” was a double winner, with Jeff Bridges claiming the best actor prize for his turn as hard-drinking country singer Bad Blake. The film’s theme …read more
Sandra Bullock beats out George Clooney as top star of 2009 box office
January 2, 2010 by Jane Boursaw
Sandra Bullock had a great year in 2009. I was really happy to see her return full force to the movie biz, because I’ve been a big fan since her “Speed” days.
I think we can all agree that “The Blind Side” and “The Proposal” all but erased the memory of the dismal “All About Steve.” Collectively, her films snagged her the top money-making star of the year, according to a poll of hundreds of theater execs.
“The Proposal” earned $315 million at worldwide box offices after its June release, while “The Blind Side” scored $193 million only in …read more

Stars react to Golden Globe nominations
December 15, 2009 by Jane Boursaw
The stars had lots to say about their Golden Globe nominations. You can read the full story at The Hollywood Reporter, but here are a few highlights:
Robert Downey Jr., (“Sherlock Holmes,” best actor, comedy): “My heartfelt thanks to the Hollywood Foreign Press for this wonderful nomination. I share this honor with Jude Law and all of my castmates, my great director Guy Ritchie and the rest of the team whose collaboration and camaraderie helped make this new incarnation of Sherlock Holmes possible.”
James Cameron (“Avatar,” best drama, best director, original score): "I’m pumped! It’s been a 4 1/2-year journey, and …read more

December 2, 2009 by Jane Boursaw
Movie: The Blind Side * Official Site
In Theaters: Nov. 20, 2009
Runtime: 128 minutes
Directed by: John Lee Hancock
MPAA Rating: PG-13 for one scene involving brief violence, drug and sexual references
Gecko Rating:
Although I love Sandra Bullock, her movies have been hit and miss with me the past few years. I loved “The Proposal,” but “All About Steve” just didn’t work for me.
But she returns to form with “The Blind Side,” in which she plays Leigh Anne Tuohy, a wealthy woman who helps out a homeless African American boy. The movie is a true story based on a book …read more
How will The Blind Side do against New Moon?
November 13, 2009 by Jane Boursaw
Any movie coming out Nov. 20 is probably going to take a hit at the box office. I say that because people will either be flocking to see “The Twilight Saga: New Moon,” or they’ll be avoiding the theater altogether because of all those “New Moon” fans.
But I hope non-“Twilight” fans will get out to see “The Blind Side.” It’s a thoughtful, inspiring movie based on the real-life book by Michael Lewis titled “The Blind Side: Evolution of a Game.”
It’s about a homeless, oversized, uneducated teenager named Michael Oher (Quinton Aaron) who’s taken in by a wealthy woman …read more
The Proposal with Sandra Bullock and Ryan Reynolds hits DVD today
October 13, 2009 by Jane Boursaw
"The Proposal” hits DVD today! I put the exclamation mark, because my daughter and I really loved this movie, and actually ended up seeing it twice in the theater. Sandra Bullock and Ryan Reynolds have great chemistry, but the real scene stealer is Betty White, who plays Reynolds’ grandmother.
The story follows an uptight corporate staffer, Margaret (Bullock), who needs to get married in order to avoid being deported back to Canada. So she ropes her assistant Andrew (Reynolds) into getting married, but things go awry when they travel to Alaska to visit his family, who decides that the …read more
Review: All About Steve (Sandra Bullock makes a great nerd)
September 6, 2009 by Jane Boursaw
Movie: All About Steve * Trailer * Official Site
In Theaters: Sept. 4, 2009
Runtime: 98 minutes
Directed by: Phil Traill
MPAA Rating: PG-13 for sexual content including innuendos
Gecko Rating:
Sometimes it’s nice when a movie doesn’t fit neatly into a particular category. But … sometimes movies like that need a little more focus.
“All About Steve” is a lot of different things – a quirky comedy, a drama, an action-adventure, a sex romp, and a little bit of a horror movie. Most of all, it’s a character study about someone who doesn’t fit neatly into society. in that way, it’s like …read more
