‘Paranormal Activity’ – Really? One of the scariest movies ever?
January 1, 2010 by Jane Boursaw
Maybe it’s because I only just watched this movie last night. Maybe it’s because I read all the hype and saw stars Micah Sloat and Katie Featherston on the talk show circuit. Maybe it’s because I’d already seen a lot of clips and trailers of the movie. Or maybe it’s because I watch a lot of “Ghost Hunters” and see guys chasing after real (I guess) ghosts.
But I’ve gotta tell ya, I just didn’t think “Paranormal Activity” was all that scary. In fact, I watched it with my 15-year-old son, and he didn’t think it was all that scary …read more
Brittany Murphy’s ‘Deadline’ poster is eerie
December 23, 2009 by Jane Boursaw
Brittany Murphy starred in a horror movie titled “Deadline,” just released on DVD Dec. 1, 2009. The artwork is a little eerie, considering that she was found collapsed in her shower.
Directed by Sean McConville, “Deadline” stars Murphy as Alice, an artist recovering from a psychological breakdown who retreats to a remote Victorian house to convalesce and focus on finishing her screenplay in time for a fast approaching deadline.
When she begins hearing strange sounds and seeing apparitions, Alice searches for the source, only to find disturbing videotapes in the attic. Fascinated by her discovery, Alice digs deeper to uncover …read more
‘Night of the Living Dead’ – the movie that keeps on giving
December 2, 2009 by Jane Boursaw
If you type in “Night of the Living Dead” on IMDB, the search brings back hundreds of incarnations of the zombie classic, with the original 1968 George A. Romero version at the top of the list.
Well, guess what?! There’s a new one coming out called “Night of the Living Dead: Origins.” It’s a 3D CGI re-imagining of the original being directed by newcomer Zebediah de Soto. Bet he’s feeling the pressure not to goof up the franchise right now!
The story, of course, follows a group of humans trying to stay alive during a zombie attack. Here are …read more
Paranormal Activity trailer looks scary
September 21, 2009 by Jane Boursaw
I haven’t yet decided if I’ll see “Paranormal Activity” or not. It looks like the kind of movie that would give me nightmares for years to come, so … probably not! Unless I’m feeling particularly brave on any given day.
In fact, that’s exactly what Bloody-Disgusting says on the official site: “Paranormal Activity is one of the scariest movies of all-time. You will be affected, as it’s hard to ignore the imprint it leaves on your psyche. Nightmares are guaranteed.”
Yeah, real life is frightening enough; I certainly don’t need any extra help in that regard! The story follows a …read more
Megan Fox talks kissing, sex tapes, and being an outcast
September 4, 2009 by Jane Boursaw
Just about everything Megan Fox says is interesting in one way or another. I think it’s because people are either waiting to see what she’ll say, or they’re so enamored with her looks that they aren’t paying attention to what she says.
Here’s a little clip from MTV in which she talks about kissing, sex tapes, and being a high school outcast. It’s fascinating to me that so many beautiful movie stars claim they were social outcasts in high school.
Catch Fox in “Jennifer’s Body,” in theaters Sept. 18, 2009, about a possessed cheerleader-turned-serial killer who’s offing her male classmates …read more
Megan Fox in Jennifer’s Body – She’s a bad, bad girl
August 13, 2009 by Jane Boursaw
I’m not so big on horror movies, but "Jennifer’s Body" looks just cheesy enough that I might have to check it out.
For one thing, it’s written by Diablo Cody ("Juno" and "The United States of Tara"). And it stars Megan Fox, Amanda Seyfried, Adam Brody, Amy Sedaris and J.K. Simmons. All great actors who would be fun in this type of movie.
Plus, it gives Megan Fox a chance to really play up the bad girl thing. She plays a possessed high schooler-turned serial killer who specializes in offing her male classmates. Seyfried plays her best friend who’s …read more
American Werewolf in London remake in the works
June 29, 2009 by Jane Boursaw
It’s been a while since I’ve seen “An American Werewolf in London,” but I’ll have to revisit it, because a remake is in the works.
Released in 1981, the funky-cult-comedy John Landis film starred David Naughton and Griffin Dunne as two American backpackers hiking in the Yorkshire moors attacked by a mysterious animal that turns out to be a werewolf. Naughton ends up terrorizing London, and Dunne’s re-animated corpse offers ways Naughton can off himself to break the curse. It’s loads of fun! (It really is.)
Dimension Films has picked up the rights and hopes to keep the fun elements of …read more
Two images from Sorority Row – Half-naked women stalked by a serial killer!
June 19, 2009 by Jane Boursaw
Here’s a fun movie for anyone who loves horror films with scantily-clad women being stalked by a serial killer. In “Sorority Row,” a group of sorority sisters try to cover up the death of a house-sister when a prank goes horribly wrong. Throw in a serial killer, and you’ve got a recipe for disaster movie heaven. Theta Pi must die!
It’s due in theaters Oct. 2, 2009, and rated R for just about everything in the book — strong bloody violence, language, some sexuality/nudity and partying. Stars include Briana Evigan, Rumer Willis, Audrina Patridge, and Carrie Fisher. Check out the …read more
Alison Lohman in Drag Me to Hell – Are loan officers considered the grim reaper?
May 27, 2009 by Jane Boursaw
Just the name “Drag Me to Hell” sounds like a cheesy 1950s movie, but the trailer and previews look downright creepy. It’s directed by Sam Raimi and stars Alison Lohman as a loan officer who, well, gets dragged to hell after nixing a loan and evicting an old woman from her home.
Hmmm, a sign of the times? I dunno, are loan officers seen as the grim reaper these days? The movie’s rated PG-13 for sequences of horror violence, terror, disturbing images and language, and opens in theaters May 29, 2009.
Drag Me to Hell – Trailer and TV Spots
May 6, 2009 by Jane Boursaw
Director Sam Raimi brings the terror with "Drag Me to Hell," a horror flick about a girl’s quest to break an evil curse.
Alison Lohman plays Christine Brown, an L.A. loan officer with a very nice boyfriend, Professor Clay Dalton (Justin Long). Life couldn’t be better, which is a dead giveaway that something horrible is about to happen.
When Mrs. Ganush (Lorna Raver) comes to the bank looking for an extension on her home loan (ripped from the headlines!), Christine denies the request, which is a really bad thing to do. The woman ends up placing a curse on Christine, turning …read more
