]]> say_anything_dvd Some friends of mine were hoping to get to this, and it looks like it was loads of fun. To celebrate the 20th anniversary of “Say Anything,” people in trench coats holding boom boxes were seen around New York City earlier today.

The film starred John Cusack as mediocre student Lloyd Dobler, attempting to capture the heart of a beautiful valedictorian. Even if you’ve never seen the movie (you need to fix that right now), you’ve likely seen the picture of Cusack holding that iconic boom box over his head.

Buy the 20th Anniversary Edition Blu-ray and DVD of “Say Anything.” In the meantime, here’s a pic from today’s event, which also featured the band named “Lloyd Dobler Effect.”

]]> Goats_Merch Lots of buzz surrounding “The Men Who Stare at Goats,” in theaters Nov. 6, 2009. The movie is based on true events as described in Jon Ronson’s 2004 book by the same name.

Ewan McGregor plays a down-on-his-luck reporter who meets a special forces agent (George Clooney), who says that yes, it’s true. There’s actually a secret military unit whose sole purpose is to use paranormal powers for the greater good.

Kevin Spacey, Jeff Bridges, Terry Serpico, and Rebecca Mader also star. No word on whether any goats were harmed in the making of this film (but I’m sure they weren’t!).

]]> Tinker Bell and the Lost Treasure is out on DVD and Blu-ray today. Can we ever get enough of that cute little pixie? I think not. She’s just darling, and that attitude!

In this DVD, Mae Whitman voices Tinker Bell, who journeys far north of Neverland to patch things up with her friend Terence and restore a Pixie Dust Tree. It’s all very noble.

Other voices include Raven-Symone, Jesse McCartney, Lucy Liu, Kristin Chenoweth, Pamela Adlon, and Anjelica Huston. Check out the clips:

]]> CheriDVDBoxart Sometimes a little film comes along that grabs your emotions and won’t let go. Such is the case for “Cheri,” a period film with some of the best period actors around.

It takes place in the decadent world of Paris at the dawn of the 20th century. Michelle Pfeiffer plays Lea, a legendary courtesan who agrees to undertake the romantic education of Chéri (Rupert Friend), the 19-year-old son of a former rival (Kathy Bates).

Lea is 30 years older than Chéri and the former lover of some of France’s wealthiest and most powerful men. The last thing she expects is to fall in love with her student. The romance consumes them both and plunges them into struggles over sex, money, age and status.

It’s a lovely film (though darker than the trailer lets on), with heartfelt performances by Pfeiffer and Friend. Directed by Stephen Frears, it’s rated R for some sexual content and brief drug use. The DVD hits store and cyber shelves on Oct. 20, 2009. Bonus features including deleted scenes and a making-of featurette.

]]> "17 Again" was released on DVD and iTunes on Aug. 11, 2009. It’s one of those movies where even though the storyline has been done a million times (adult becoming kid, kid becoming adult, yada yada), this movie manages to be fresh and sweet.

Apple iTunesIt stars Zac Efron as a grownup who feels like his life is going nowhere, until … he magically becomes “17 again” and realizes that his life is way better than he thought it was.
