Shutter Island gets a new release date – watch the HD trailer
August 24, 2009 by Jane Boursaw
The release date for “Shutter Island” has been pushed back from Oct. 2, 2009 to Feb. 19, 2010. I guess they’re not going to make that Halloween release date, but that’s ok. We’ll look forward to it next year.
The film teams frequent collaborators director Martin Scorsese and Leonardo DiCaprio, who along with Mark Ruffalo plays a U.S. marshal. The partners are summoned to a remote island off the coast of Massachusetts to investigate the disappearance of a murderess from the island’s fortress-like mental hospital. Cripes, there’s something creepy about mental hospitals, in general, but especially those like this one …read more
Jake Gyllenhaal and Jerry Bruckheimer reveal Prince of Persia details
May 10, 2009 by Jane Boursaw
The upcoming "Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time" isn’t due out until May 28, 2010, but we’re already starting to see footage and interviews on the fantasy adventure flick.
It’s based on a popular Ubisoft video game, and stars Jake Gyllenhaal as Dastan, a young prince in sixth century Persia who joins forces with the exotic princess Tamina (Gemma Arterton) to prevent a villainous nobleman from getting his mitts on the Sands of Time. Is Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger making a movie comeback? Apparently so! He’s reportedly signed to appear in Sylvester Stallone’s upcoming movie “The Expendables.”
The movie follows a team of mercenaries who go to South Africa on a mission to overthrow a dictator. Yep, that sounds like classic Stallone.
But, well, maybe not entirely classic Stallone. Sir Ben Kingsley, Eric Roberts and Mickey Rourke have also signed to star in the movie. So maybe the plot will include something besides lots of explosions and gunfire.
Oh, and Arnold will be playing himself. So I guess he’s not quite done with politics …read more
Penelope Cruz in London after the screening of her sexy new movie
January 4, 2009 by Jane Boursaw
Here’s a pic of Penelope Cruz, in London after the screening of her new movie. The caption doesn’t say which movie, but I’m guessing it’s "Elegy," in which she gets involved with a cultural critic, played by Ben Kingsley. Based on the Pulitzer Prize-winner Philip Roth’s short novel, "The Dying Animal," the movie begins as a sex-charged relationship and evolves into a romance. Also stars Dennis Hopper, Patricia Clarkson, and Peter Sarsgaard.
