"Phoebe in Wonderland" – Preview & Trailer
February 14, 2009 by Jane Boursaw
When I heard about a movie called "Phoebe in Wonderland," I figured it would either be a fun kids’ flick or a dramatic movie. This one sounds more like the latter, with some fantasy thrown into the mix.
Elle Fanning (Dakota’s younger sister) plays Phoebe, a girl who really wants to be in her school’s production of "Alice in Wonderland." Patricia Clarkson (one of my favorites) casts her in the play, but Phoebe’s got some problems and starts acting out and causing problems for her parents (Felicity Huffman and Bill Pullman).
Before you know it, Phoebe is retreating into a fantasy world populated by characters from "Alice in Wonderland." It’s rated PG-13 for thematic material and brief strong language, so probably not the fun kids’ flick I was thinking about. Directed by Daniel Barnz, "Phoebe in Wonderland" will be released in theaters March 6, 2009.

Tim Burton Making "Dark Shadows" Next Summer
December 3, 2008 by Jane Boursaw
Well, Rob Pattinson may be the hot vampire at the moment, but some of us know that Barnabas Collins made vampires trendy.
A “Dark Shadows” film is in the works, and Collider.com is reporting that director Tim Burton and Johnny Depp are making the film next summer. It’ll be Burton’s next project after Alice in Wonderland.
Written by John August, the film is based on the cult ’60s TV show created by Dan Curtis. Johnny Depp will play Barnabas Collins, the vampire patriarch of the series played by Jonathan Frid in the TV series. Check out Jonathan’s official Web site.
It’s amazing that “Dark Shadows,” which ran from 1966 to 1971, has an archive of more than 1,225 episodes. I loved it. Loved all the spooky goth stuff, all the vampires, monsters, witches, werewolves, ghosts and zombies. Can’t wait to see what those two do with the film.
