Stephen Sommers to Direct "Tarzan"

September 2, 2008 by Jane Boursaw

stephensommers What?! Another remake?! Yes, there truly are no new ideas in Hollywood. Variety is reporting that Stephen Sommers is in talks to direct a big screen version of Tarzan for Warner Bros., with Jerry Weintraub producing.

Sommers, who will co-write the Tarzan script with Stuart Beattie, recently wrapped G.I. Joe: Rise of Cobra for Paramount. Warner Bros. and Weintraub have been developing Tarzan since 2003, when John August was hired to pen a new take on the Edgar Rice Burroughs-created character. Two years ago, the studio was negotiating with Guillermo del Toro to direct.

Ok. I’ll go with it if it’ll help erase the memory of Miles O’Keeffe and Bo Derek in the 1981 version.
