"Sleeper" Gets a Writer

October 15, 2008 by Jane Boursaw

tomcruise “Sleeper” has landed a new writer, Brad Inglesby. The DC Comics/Wildstorm graphic novel was picked up for adaptation by Warner Bros. in August. It’s scheduled for a 2011 release.

The Hollywood Reporter describes it as a “high-tech noir series published from 2003-05 that puts superheroes in a stylish, hard-boiled crime saga not unlike ‘The Departed’” (which I loved and is one of my all-time favorite movies).

Tom Cruise has shown interest in the project, which is being produced by Sam Raimi and Josh Donen through their Stars Road Entertainment company.

The protagonist, Holden Carver, is a spy stranded in a criminal organization, but he’s impervious to pain, thanks to an alien artifact. I’m not sure I see Tom Cruise in this particular role (or even if that’s the role he’d play). I guess I envision someone…younger… Is that ageist?

In March, Inglesby sold his thriller spec “The Low Dweller,” with Leonardo DiCaprio and Ridley Scott attached, to Relativity Media after a bidding war.
