Sigourney Weaver Committed to Ripley
December 6, 2008 by Jane Boursaw
The “Alien” movies are big around our house, even “Alien Resurrection,” which nobody seemed to like but us. Whenever you have an iconic character like Sigourney Weaver’s Ripley, you wonder what more could be done with her. Maybe we’ll get to find out.
MTV.com chatted recently with Weaver, who said, “There’s definitely uncharted territory for Ripley.” Hmmm, interesting.
Apparently, she and Ridley Scott have discussed the idea of re-teaming for a fifth “Alien” film. “Both of us feel a kind of commitment to that woman. He’s as much responsible for who she is as I am.”
But whether the alien itself would factor into another movie is questionable. Weaver mused on whether “there’s uncharted territory for a creature who’s become somewhat debased by this computer generated thing.”
More after the jump…
She added, “What we’re interested in is taking the character of Ripley and seeing what other science fiction story we can tell about someone who has lived several lives.”
It would be really cool if they went back to Ripley’s early beginnings and cast a young actress to tell that story. I’d love to learn more about her life pre-”Alias.”
Any thoughts on this?
