Shatner: I Was Never Contacted About the Movie

September 21, 2008 by Jane Boursaw

I posted a few weeks ago about J.J. Abrams saying he wanted William Shatner in the new “Star Trek” movie. But Shatner wanted more than a cameo, “which, frankly, he deserves,” said Abrams.

You’ve got to admit that Abrams is in a tough spot. It would be great to have Shatner in the movie, but part of me also says let the past stay in the past. Don’t muck up Shatner’s iconic role with a throw-away part in the new movie.

So anyway, Shatner decided to address the issue himself:

He agrees that he would be opposed to a cameo, but mentions the idea of bringing Kirk back. I just don’t think it’s a great idea.
