Scott Rudin Exits "The Reader"
October 9, 2008 by Jane Boursaw
Talk about your dysfunctional families. Only in this instance, the family is a film crew. Scott Rudin has walked away from The Reader and will no longer be involved with The Weinstein Co.’s December release.
He also won’t be credited as a producer on the period romantic-drama starring Kate Winslet and Ralph Fiennes.
Apparently, there’s been some feuding going on. Rudin’s move took the Weinstein Co. by surprise, coming several weeks after Rudin (pictured with Sydney Pollack) and Harvey Weinstein claimed to bury the hatchet. Really? Apparently not.
More after the jump…
The film has been the subject of a tense battle between Weinstein and Rudin. Rudin wanted an ‘09 release, but seemed to agree on an ‘08 release, with Rudin securing more postproduction support for the film.
A Weinstein Co. spokeswoman said tonight that postproduction was moving ahead on schedule. Donna Gigliotti remains as a producer on the film, with the late Anthony Minghella and the late Sydney Pollack also credited as producers.
I’ve heard some stories about Harvey Weinstein. Just sayin’…
