Russell Crowe and Ben Affleck in State of Play – Preview & Trailer

March 11, 2009 by Jane Boursaw

state_of_play_poster Russell Crowe is one of those actors I can watch in just about anything. In fact, I was trying to think of a performance of his I haven’t liked, and I can’t think of any. He never rests on his laurels. He always brings it.

His character of Ben Wade in "3:10 to Yuma" was one of the best of 2007, and 2005’s "Cinderella Man" made me go out and buy the book – something I rarely do after seeing a movie.

So I’m looking forward to "State of Play," in which Crowe stars as D.C. reporter Cal McAffrey, who ends up in the middle of a murder mystery involving some big-wig politicians and corporate suits, including Congressman Stephen Collins (Ben Affleck), a rising star in the politico world.

More after the jump, including a trailer…

Kevin Macdonald ("The Last King of Scotland"), directs this crime thriller, which also stars Helen Mirren as McAffrey’s ruthless editor and Rachel McAdams as his partner Della. Robin Wright Penn, Jason Bateman, and Jeff Daniels also star in "State of Play," which arrives in theaters April 17, 2009. Check out the trailer and see what you think:
