Rodent Fever Grips "Alvin" Fans
April 2, 2008 by Jane Boursaw
Fans snapped up 2.6 million DVDs and Blu-ray Discs of “Alvin and the Chipmunks,” released on store shelves yesterday, notes The Hollywood Reporter.
That’s the highest first-day sales tally of any new home video release so far this year, and who can blame them? Those little chipmunks known as Alvin, Simon and Theodore are ultra-cute. Read my review and see if you agree.
“Families have really embraced ‘Alvin and the Chipmunks,’ ” said Steve Felstein, senior vp of marketing and corporate communications for 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment’s video division. “We saw it at the box office, we’re seeing it on DVD and Blu-ray Disc, and we’re seeing it on the road with our Get Munk’d Tour.”
Felstein is referring to a series of 12 mall shows by Alvin and the Chipmunks — part of Fox’s promotional campaign for the DVD/Blu-ray Disc — which ends April 13.
Ok, I’m trying to visualize real people dancing around in chipmunk costumes, which, quite frankly, sounds a little creepy! Anyone seen it? Weigh in, please!
