Review “Children of Men”

January 5, 2007 by leora

Today Ariel and I saw a movie that has been on our must see list for a while.  It first came out in limited release (it was only playing downtown) but today it opened more widely.

The movie stars Clive Owen, Julianne Moore, Michael Caine, Chiwetel Ejiofor and others who all did an amazing job.  The movie is about people no longer being fertile and the world going crazy because of it.  The creepiest part of the movie is that it’s set in 2027.  I’ll have just hopefully finished having kids by then but will be counting on numerous grandchildren so I’m glad this movie is totally fiction.  I must say though when I left the theatre I had a strong urge to get pregnant much to the chagrin of my husband!

Anyway, back to the movie.  The sets in this film are SO well done that I would bet money on it being an Oscar contender and the urban warfare scene are so realistic it’s eerie.  The movie really grabs your attention right off  the bat and takes you on a terrifyingly realistic ride.  It also makes you think a lot about whether or not people in real life would react in the same way they do in the movie.  It also made me realize how important having kids really is to me.

I definitely recommend seeing this movie and hope that anyone who does see it comes back and chats about it in the comments because I’m anctious to hear what others thought of this flick.

  1. DVD Dude says:

I’m in Australia and missed the cinematic screening of this so I now have to wait until 21st FEB for the DVD release, looking forward to it though. The concept of the film sounds facinating so hopefully it lives up to my expectations.
