Redbelt: Preview & Trailer

Tim Allen has been stuck in the Disney-family-film genre for a while, but I think this movie will elevate him into a higher status in the film industry. I’ve always admired his work, and I’m looking forward to seeing this movie.
Directed by veteran filmmaker David Mamet, Redbelt tells the story of Mike Terry (Chiwetel Ejiofor), a professional trainer at the Southside Jiu-jitsu Academy who’s able to kill a man with his bare hands. But Terry’s not all that confrontational, and refuses to fight in competitions. After saving the life of an action movie star (Tim Allen), Mike trades his old job in for the film industry and ends up taking part in a prize fight.
This movie opens in NY and L.A. tomorrow, May 2, and in wide release on May 9. It’s rated R for strong language (but after seeing the trailer, I have no idea why violence isn’t included in that rating). Check it out:
