Oliver Stone Seeks Funding for Bush Film

January 22, 2008 by Jeanne

George W Bush Oscar-winning director, Oliver Stone, has been shopping around a script based on the life of U.S. President George W. Bush.  Although Stone is a known critic of the Bush administration’s decision to invade Iraq, he says that he would like to create "a fair, true portrait of the man. How did Bush go from being an alcoholic bum to the most powerful figure in the world?"

Stone went on to tell the Daily Variety that "’Bush" is "a behind-the-scenes approach, similar to ‘Nixon,’ to give a sense of what it’s like to be in his skin…  It will contain surprises for Bush supporters and his detractors."

In terms of casting the lead role, Stone says that Josh Brolin ("No Country for Old Men" and "American Gangster") would be his first pick.

Filming could start as early as April if Stone can secure financing.
