New on DVD: June 3, 2008

Will Ferrell continues his quest to make a movie about every sport. This week, Semi-Pro hits store shelves, along with a group of rag-tag Spartan warriors. New on DVD today:

Semi-Pro (2008). Will Ferrell stars as Jackie Moon, a washed-up singer turned lousy pro hoops player. But he’ll be tossed out of the league if he can’t rally his teammates to win Just One Game!

Meet the Spartans (2008). It’s another movie spoof, this time on 300 (“I am the King of Persia”). Sean Maguire leads a ragtag group of 13 Spartan warriors into battle against Persian invaders — and the Transformers.

Vince Vaughn’s Wild West Comedy Show (2006). Vince Vaughn (pictured) takes a quartet of young comedians on a 30-city tour across the American heartland. The cameras follow them onstage and off.

The Eye (2008). An experimental procedure gives Jessica Alba her sight back, but she soon wishes she was blind again.

Mama’s Boy (2007). Jon Heder loves living with his mom (Diane Keaton), until her new boyfriend (Jeff Daniels) threatens their peaceful existence.

Control (2007). This biopic tells the real-life story of Ian Curtis (Sam Riley), co-founder of the new-wave band Joy Division. Sadly, he took his own life just as the band’s star was rising.

Flawless (2007). Michael Caine and Demi Moore are an unlikely pair of thieves when they rip off the company that’s treated them badly — the London Diamond Corporation.

Boarding Gate (2008). Asia Argento is having an affair with a wealthy businessman (Michael Madsen) and the hit man hired to kill him (Carl Ng).
