Matthew McConaughey in for The Lincoln Lawyer
March 29, 2009 by Jane Boursaw
Matthew McConaughey is taking a break from romantic comedies like “Fool’s Gold” and the upcoming “Ghosts of Girlfriends Past” (in theaters May 1, 2009) to delve into a juicy legal thriller.
McConaughey is attached to star in “The Lincoln Lawyer.” Based on a Michael Connolly book, the story centers on low-level criminal defense attorney Mickey Haller who finds himself representing a rich client with ties to a previous murder case Haller handled.
While I like McConaughey in the romantic comedies – he’s pretty cute, after all – I also appreciate his dramas like “We Are Marshall” and “A Time to Kill,” another legal thriller based on a John Grisham novel (one of my favorite authors).
I’ll have to catch up on some Michael Connolly books to prep myself for the movie. Anyone a fan of Michael Connelly and/or Matthew McConaughey? Think they’ll be a good match?

Sorry. NO WAY. One hates to pretend one knows the range of actors, but I think it goes beyond his or his agents’ choices – this IS a featherweight, the male equivalent of a “bimbo,” and Mr. Connelly, whose work I know and love, is as good as they get (and almost “nuanced,” rare in his genre) when it comes to mystery writing. Oh well, someone craggy might be a tougher sell, although the fellow who played “The Visitor” would have been an interesting choice.
Well, Haller had, in his own words in the novel, “dark Irish looks” beacuse his mother had Latin looks. So, I can’t see him in McConaughey.
