July 17, 2008 by Jane Boursaw
Sophia (Amanda Seyfried) is getting married on the island where her mother (Meryl Streep) runs a hotel. She invites three men, one of which might be her father, to the wedding in the hope that the right one will give her away. Her mother is horrified. It’s all set to a backdrop of ABBA song.
Directed by Phyllida Lloyd, this movie opens wide in theaters tomorrow and is rated PG-13 for some sex-related comments. It also stars Stellan Skarsgard, Pierce Brosnan, Colin Firth, and Julie Walters. Wow, what a line-up!

If I’d only heard about this film without seeing the trailer, you’d have to drag me to see it and duct tape me to the armrests. But the preview looks really FUN, and Streep does comedy well.
Hi Toni - I was planning on seeing this today, but after The Dark Knight, I was spent! I’ll definitely see it soon, though, and will post a review. The plot does seem a little lame, but I can’t think of a movie where I haven’t loved Meryl Streep.
