Kristen Stewart to Rock Out as Joan Jett
December 3, 2008 by Jane Boursaw
Ah, good times. I remember Joan Jett and the Runaways from the ’70s. It was right about the time I started noticing bands, and they definitely had an impact on me, being an all-girl band and all.
Now Kristen Stewart - fresh off her “Twilight” success - is set to play Joan Jett in “The Runaways,” a rock-n-roll biopic about the band. She even looks like the rocker, doesn’t she?
This is the part of this story where I say, “Yeah! Oh Yeah!” (You’ll get that if you’re a Joan Jett fan). And Joan Jett herself will act as executive producer, so she’ll be giving her stamp of approval on everything, which is cool.
More after the jump…
The Runaways were the first successful all-girl rock band, and included guitarists Jett and Lita Ford, drummer Sandy West, singer-keyboardist Cherie Currie and bassist Jackie Fox.
The band was brought together in late 1975 by Kim Fowley, who thought a group of teenaged girls rocking out in leather and lace would be an easy sell, but the girls ended up proving to be serious and influential musicians with songs like “Cherry Bomb.” So, take that, naysayers! The band lasted about four years, but fell apart over management and money issues.

Wow, at first I thought, “Yuck,” but now I’m liking this idea. Kristen might just rock it.
