Kathleen Turner Talks Type Casting – Video

February 13, 2008 by Jeanne

image Actress Kathleen Turner on the Today show this morning to talk about her new memoir “Send Yourself Roses.”  She said some nice things about co-stars Danny DeVito, Michael Douglas and Jack Nicholson but was more inflammatory when talking about Burt Reynolds and Nicholas Cage.

What struck me, however, was her discussion about getting her first role in “Body Heat” and how accepting similar “sexy” roles was offered to her but she didn’t want to get type cast.  She says that actors shouldn’t repeat themselves and that it is more interesting to explore new characters.  She said “why do the same thing you’ve already done?”

Here’s where she lost me and I’m sure some of you will disagree but I think that she taken on a lot of similar roles.  I found her characters in “War of the Roses,” “Undercover Blues” and “Romancing the Stone/Jewel of the Nile” to be along the same grain (sure, some of it was more light and comedic but you know what I mean.)

Do you think Kathleen Turner is a varied actress?  In the meantime, watch this incredibly interesting interview:
