In a World…Without Don LaFontaine
September 2, 2008 by Jane Boursaw
You might not have recognized Donald LaFontaine if you met him on the street, but his voice was well-known to millions of people.
The voiceover actor — famous for recording nearly 5,000 movie trailers, and nearly 350,000 commercials, and programs — passed away on Monday at the age of 68 due to complications from Pneumothorax.
His official website notes that LaFontaine was the voice of NBC, CBS, ABC, Fox and UPN, in addition to TNT, TBS and the Cartoon Network. He voiced thousands of television and radio spots, including commercials for Chevrolet, Pontiac, Ford, Budweiser, McDonalds, Coke, and many other corporate sponsors. He worked on nearly 5000 films, and based on contracts signed, was perhaps the single busiest actor in the history of SAG.
Amazing! Check out this clip about LaFontaine’s work, including the trailer voiceover for Terminator 2: Judgment Day.
