Helen Hunt Talks "Then She Found Me" at ComingSoon.net

April 24, 2008 by Jane Boursaw

image Helen Hunt has logged plenty of time in front of the camera — as Jamie Buchman on Mad About You, not to mention numerous films, including a couple of my favorites, What Women Want and As Good As It Gets.

I’ve loved watching her career grow over the years, and she just keeps getting better and better.

Now she’s stepping behind the camera to direct Then She Found Me, an independent film based on the novel by Elinor Lipman. Hunt spent the past decade shepherding the project into development, with an upcoming theatrical release (limited) on May 2, 2008.

More after the jump, including a trailer…

In the movie, she plays April Epner, a woman about to turn 40 whose been wanting a baby. It’s only after her husband (Matthew Broderick) leaves her that she learns she’s pregnant. Not only that, she’s found a new guy, a single father of two played by Colin Firth. Also, April was adopted at a young age, and now her birth-mother (Bette Midler), has tracked her down.

Wow, what a yummy cast (yes, I said yummy). ComingSoon.net posted a great interview with Hunt earlier today. She talks about developing the project over the past decade, saying, “It was the one thing on my desk that kind of kept blinking for me, and very slowly, piece by piece, it came to me…maybe it was missing what the protagonist wants. Stories are better when the main character really desperately wants something, and I was wanting a baby at the time. That just seemed conspicuously right in a mother-daughter story.”
