Hasbro and Universal Make Toy, Game Deal

February 20, 2008 by Jeanne

optimus prime toy Universal Pictures and Hasbro Inc. have come to a mutually beneficial deal involving the production of toys for at least four movies based on some of Hasbro’s brands.

My first thought was the possibilities for the toys from Transfomers and the upcoming G.I. Joe movie but they are excluded from this six-year partnership since their rights are already under film contracts.

The first movie from their exclusive deal will be released in 2010 or 2011, and Universal subsequently will release at least one film a year.

Since Hasbro has some key brands like Star Wars and Tonka, I believe this deal could be very lucrative on both sides.
