Get Ready for Period Movies
June 19, 2008 by Jane Boursaw
No, not THAT kind of period…the kind where movies are set in all types of historical and cultural settings — everything from the 1780s to the 1960s. Will we be able to handle a bunch of them all at once? I guess the box office will tell that story.
More after the jump…
Here’s a rundown of period movies scheduled for release in 2008:
- Changeling, a 1920’s missing-child drama from Universal/Clint Eastwood (and Angelina Jolie pictured)
- Australia, a WWI epic from Fox/ Baz Luhrmann
- The Secret Life of Bees, Searchlight’s mid-century Southern tale
- Doubt, a 1960s Catholic-school drama from Miramax
- The Duchess, an 18th century Keira Knightley quill-and-wig extravaganza
- Frost/Nixon, a political saga from Ron Howard
- Revolutionary Road, a Sam Mendes/Leonardo DiCaprio collaboration
- Milk, a biopic from Gus Van Sant
- Defiance from Ed Zwick, Shanghai from Mikael Hafstrom, and Miracle at St. Ann from Spike Lee, all WWII throwbacks.
