Let me begin by saying that I can’t even believe that I rented this movie – I definitely didn’t go to see it in the theater. Still, one of my older children kept harrassing me so I finally caved. It worked out because the language and subject matter was surprisingly tame.
"Balls of Fury" is not as bad as it sounds, thankfully. Mind you, I do have a rather unhinged and unconventional sense of humor so I’m not exactly sure how well my opinion of this movie can be generalized to the masses.
The film follows the life of ping pong prodigy, Randy Daytona (Dan Fogler) who, after a life-changing event, leaves the sport and is later called out of retirement by the FBI who need his help to crack a case. Yeah, it’s unbelievable but it’s one of those movies that you just have to accept without thinking too much – just go with it and you might actually have a few laughs.
I was surprised to see Jason Scott Lee in a few scenes where they make direct reference to his most famous role as Bruce Lee in the movie "Dragon." The rest of the cast includes Christopher Walken (the villain, Feng), George Lopez (Agent Rodriguez), Maggie Q (Maggie Wong), James Hong (Master Wong) and Terry Crews (Freddy).
IMDb users gave it a 50% (40% on Rotten Tomatoes).
