Film Preview: "Funny Games"

The trailer for “Funny Games” is so unusual!  The music makes all the difference.  I’m not really sure what to make of it but it definitely got my attention. 

I think the fact that the attackers are so lighthearted about the situation is what makes it really scary for me.  Home invasions are terrifying in and of themselves but the idea that the perpetrator(s) would be laughing and enjoying it brings that to a whole new level.  Plus, the two “attackers” have on polo shirts and look all preppy and normal.  It humanizes them and I know many of us dehumanize people who commit such crimes.  It almost reminds me of a watered-down (very watered-down) scene from “A Clockwork Orange.”  This could actually be interesting and I think the cast is pretty solid: Naomi Watts, Tim Curry and Michael Pitt.

“Funny Games” hits theaters on March 14, 2008.
