Exclusive: Pics of Mel Gibson on "Edge of Darkness" Set!
September 11, 2008 by Jane Boursaw
The Gecko has eyes and ears everywhere — even on the set of the new Mel Gibson movie, Edge of Darkness. Nope, Robert De Niro was nowhere in site.
My friend, Betsy Hijazi, who blogs at AguileraBuff.com, has a knack for being in the right place at the right time. Walking through the Boston Common, she happened upon the “Edge of Darkness” set and there was Mel Gibson filming a scene for the movie.
“If I had to run into a bonafide movie star, he’d be at the top of my list,” says Betsy. “I was so happy and shocked to see him.”
More after the jump, including photos…
Betsy reports that Gibson was joking with everyone and very nice to the crowd of about 30 people who’d gathered to watch. Being the expert blogger she is, Betsy had her digital camera with her and snapped a few pictures for Film Gecko. Enjoy!

Lucky girl, she was!
Hi Jane! I’ll tell you, I was NOT expecting to be standing 15 feet away from Mel that day. It was as though the planets were aligned just right!
I left work late. When I got to the subway there were about 200 people there — about 180 more than normal! So I knew something was wrong.
Then I remembered I forgot to mail something. Went back to work, walked to the post office and then thought perhaps I’d go take some photos and walk through the common.
Dope! My batteries were running out as I took a few photos of ducks and water.
I continued on through the Common and saw some filming of a little girl playing with a ball. We all walked around that. Then I saw a much bigger crowd of people so I just had to join. What else did I have planned on a Friday evening?
Just as I walked up, over strolls Mel to the Craft food table and he starts munching on the good stuff! He says to the crowd, ‘don’t you all have something better to do?’ and everyone laughed. Mel laughed and then said, ‘I do! I need to EAT!’ And he grabbed for the big chocolate cake! But he laughed and then ate some nuts and fruits.
Mel laughed with the crowd and stayed there for about 5 minutes.
My camera was nearly dead though…So my shots weren’t great.
But Mel left and then I ran to CVS for batteries!
It was fun!!!
Betsy – Thanks so much for that behind-the-scenes look! What a thrill!
great going Betsy! when Edge of Darkness comes I’ll be thinking how you got a “part” in that movie.
With all that’s coming apart before our eyes —WHY is Gibson wasting his
time with such routine comfort-zone HBO thriller slop?
—Hey Mel! —it’s 2010!—get with it!
January 4, 2010,
Dear Mr. Gibson,
I much suspect that you will never read this letter, so i’ll write it as too the point that i can, Happy New Year, Happy Birthday, and good luck with your future ventures. Belated. Happy Christmas also, belated.
Do you believe in the Armagedon/Rapture/Apocalypse/Ragnaroc Theories of January the 21st, 2010?
So if you do would you allow that The edge of darkness be released earlier than the date of January 29, 2010? Unless contents are too volitile for me to digest. Sincerely, Ms. R. Vandermale.
