DVD Giveaway: The Errol Flynn Collection
September 1, 2008 by Jane Boursaw
My September Contest Slam is starting off with a bang! First up is a fabulous classic set called Errol Flynn: The Warner Bros. Western Collection.
No one personified the “guy’s guy” like the wonderful Errol Flynn. But did you know he was never nominated for an Oscar and never attended a ceremony in his honor?
Still, he was regarded as the prodigal son of Hollywood, the granddad of heroes who built the foundation for modern action stars like Mel Gibson, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Harrison Ford, and Kevin Costner.
Check out Errol Flynn’s official web site, owned by daughter, Rory Flynn.
DVD and contest details after the jump…
This awesome four-disc, 6 1/2-hour set of Errol Flynn movies (retails for $39.99 - $49.99!) includes:
1. Virginia City (1940). In this Civil War frontier drama, Flynn plays a Union officer who escapes from a Southern prison to Virginia City, where he learns of a plan to ship gold to the Confederacy via wagon train. Also stars Randolph Scott, Miriam Hopkins, and Humphrey Bogart (as a half-breed Mexican bandit!). Black and white, 121 minutes.
2. San Antonio (1945). The sound of gunfire echoes through the Alamo once more, as cattleman Flynn sets out to break the hold rustler Paul Kelly has on the good folk of San Antonio. Alexis Smith and S.Z. Sakall co-star. Color, 109 minutes.
3. Montana (1950). Sheep rancher Flynn leaves his native Australia to start a new life in America, but upon arriving in the sprawling Montana Territory, he finds himself in the middle of a violent range war. Also stars Alexis Smith and Douglas Kennedy. Color, 76 minutes.
4. Rocky Mountain (1950). Confederate soldier Flynn tries in vain to rally ’round the cause of Dixie, but finds a way to restore his honor in the Rocky Mountain range. Also stars Patrice Wymore and Slim Pickens. Black and white, 83 minutes.
THE GIVEAWAY: I have ONE Errol Flynn Collection to give away. To enter the contest, simply leave a comment on this post by midnight on Saturday, Sept. 6, 2008.
