Downey, Jr. Disses "Dark Knight"

August 18, 2008 by Jane Boursaw

downeyjr1 Robert Downey Jr. says he just “didn’t get” The Dark Knight.

During an interview with MovieHole.net about the Batman sequel, Downey says, “It’s like a Ferrari engine of storytelling and script writing and I’m like, ‘That’s not my idea of what I want to see in a movie.’

The Iron Man star adds that he “didn’t get it, still can’t tell you what happened in the movie, what happened to the character, and in the end, they need him to be a bad guy. I’m like, ‘I get it. This is so highbrow and so f–king smart, I clearly need a college education to understand this movie.’

He ends with, “You know what? F-ck DC Comics. That’s all I have to say, and that’s where I’m really coming from.”

So…I’m guessing he doesn’t have any DC projects in the works…

His comments are basically word salad, but I think the upshot is that he’s trying to flip the bird at DC to appease the Marvel fanboys who are funding his big comeback. I don’t believe for a second that he didn’t actually “get” TDK.

Liz – “word salad” – love it! I think you’re right. On the surface, it *seems like he’s saying, oh, DC is for intellectual snobs who want thinking-person movies, whereas Marvel is for people who just love to be entertained. But, in reality, maybe he’s just talking up his peeps, which, in turn, talks up his comeback.

And is it just me, or is every other movie these days a comic-book movie?

I have to agree with him. I found it very boring, with no character structure or sense, no real tension, and absolutely no sense of meaning. I would not recommend the movie or see it again.
