Chucky Turns 20 - Remake in the Works

by Jane Boursaw on September 8th, 2008

chuckydvd I’ve never had any interest in the Chucky movies (Child’s Play), but it’s the 20th Birthday of the sicko, and tomorrow, they’re releasing Child’s Play: Chucky’s 20th Birthday Edition on DVD.

ShockTillYouDrop.com talked with filmmakers Don Mancini and David Kirschner, and the topic of a remake came up:

“Naturally, I don’t want to say too much,” said Mancini. “A lot of the Chuck mythology was reworked by David and Tom Holland — specifically the voodoo aspect, but also the specific detail of Chucky being possessed by the soul of a serial killer.”

More after the jump…

Mancini added that this is different from his script, where he was the living embodiment of the kid’s Id. “All of the stuff in the movie is such an intrinsic part of the mythology,” he said. “I think it would be misguided to stray from that too far. We have ways and ideas of making that darker — darker, we believe, than the original movie.”

Yikes. And what must it be like for a person to have their entire career about Chucky? That’s pretty much the case with Mancini. Check out the full interview here.

1 opinion for Chucky Turns 20 - Remake in the Works

Its quite interesting to know all about the whole chucky franchise and so on (Bride Of Chucky in my opinion only stands out as far much more better than any of the rest I think) I do remember watching Child’s Play 1-3 whenever I was only a wee thing of 9 to 10 and scared me so badly it nearly shook me to death of watching them. They were pretty good then but so badly done with too many cliches all in the one go and pretty overly violent throughout (the gruesome OTT ending of Child’s Play 2 at the toy factory I just couldn’t withstand altogether - pretty well-done and overly far-fetched though and not for the squeamish at all) Bride of Chucky wasn’t so overly gruesome but only just mostly bloody throughout but at least it was pretty funny and well-staged though. “Peachy” from Chucky (I loved that saying!) and “Eat your heart out Chucky” from Tiffany (that was a good scream of a catchphrase i think) and “Those dishes aren’t going work by themselves” (that was a good ol’ saying too - it made me laugh my own head completely) Bride of Chucky was just simply one of my own favourites of the lot and I’m not just saying that really and truly. The rest were all forgettable then though still remembered to this day throughout. I just can’t wait to see the brand chucky remake whenever it comes out in 2010 its also been rumoured for the better that this one should make a much more better improvement than the last one to date from 20 years ago there previously and I’m also so pleased and happy to know that Brad Dourif will reprise his role as the great and infamous Charles Lee Ray the lakeshore serial murder to the the doll itself Chucky. Brad Dourif is just simply one of whole true kind let me tell you that. The Chucky Remake of 2010 wouldn’t be much the same without him. At least he’s the only there for it and no other. “Don’t f**k with Chuck!” (Brilliant quote from Child’s Play 3)
