Chris Weitz: "New Moon" to begin shooting in March 2009

January 8, 2009 by Jane Boursaw

TwilightCastPoster1 Director Chris Weitz has confirmed that “New Moon” will be shot in Vancouver, British Columbia; Rome; and L.A.; and filming will begin in March of 2009.

The L.A. casting director has been hired, but their information will not be posted. I’m guessing that’s because of the number of unsolicited calls and submissions they’d receive. They’ve also acquired the rights for “Eclipse,” the third movie in the series, but pre-production won’t begin until 2010.

Here’s what we know:

  • Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart will be back as Edward and Bella.
  • Taylor Lautner will be back in the role of Jacob Black.
  • Director Chris Weitz is on the prowl for at least six people to play Quileute Indians, all of whom eventually morph into wolves.
  • They’re also looking for Italian vampires: five men and two women. In the casting document, they’re all described as being, among other things, “beautiful,” “handsome” and/or “elegant.” No surprise there.
  • Disney stars Vanessa Hudgens and Brenda Song are being considered for roles. Fans either love or hate this idea.
  • Shooting is set to begin in March in Vancouver, they’ll also be filming in Italy.

Why is it the THIRD movie? What happened to Eclipse? Please tell us this is a typo!!

    http://twicrackaddict.blogspot.com/2009/01/rights-to-make-breaking-dawn-movie.html

  2. Mel says:

Can’t wait for the filming to begin! XD

  3. Mel says:

And I’m glad that Taylor is back as Jacob.

  4. Melissa says:

Why aren’t they mentioning any of the other Cullens coming back?? They aren’t going to recast any of them, are they??

Glad to see Taylor got the role… and Eclipse is going to be the 3rd movie, right, not Breaking Dawn???

And kind of sad they aren’t going to film in Portland again! We will miss them

  5. Jane Boursaw says:

Cheekyi – Yes, you’re right! Eclipse is third, Breaking Dawn is fourth. Just corrected the copy. :-)

  6. Britt says:

Does anyone know who Vanessa Hudgens is being cast for??

  7. Kasey says:

Does anyone know how long filming will take? or if they will still be filming in May 2009? I would have thought so if they are filming New Moon and Eclipse back to back….

  8. tay says:

venessa hudgens is being considerd for the role of leah clearwater. she only has a little part but in eclipse and breaking dawn it will be bigger.
i dont think she should really get it shes not “mean” enough if you ask me i think the looks right (apart from shes to small and petite)
but then i was thinking well we need her to be short to make taylor look bigger as jacob
:) who knows it may work out
oh and dont get me wrong i absolutly hate high school musical and anything to do with it. but it might be the wright thing to do. and and and im happy we have taylor back :)

  9. tay says:

wait wait wait … i lie i lie
i just read this. (twilight lexicon)

So we asked Melissa if Leah Clearwater appeared in her script, because in the novel Leah is barely a blip on the radar. She’s in the spaghetti dinner scene talking on the phone. It seemed to us that they probably wouldn’t be introducing Leah this movie given that fact.

So…drumroll please…according to Melissa Rosenberg, “if Vanessa is auditioning for the role of Leah, she’s written her own pages to read, ’cause I didn’t write ‘em. ”

So for the sake of our sanity, let’s save the Leah obsession for Eclipse where it actually belongs. The main female character that we all want to know about in New Moon isn’t a werewolf at all. It’s a pint-sized vampire with a hell of a wallop named JANE!

so now im really confused because there are sooo many reports and blogs that say she is ehhh i dont know hahaha

  10. Amber says:

They cant cast vanessa hugons and brenda song in any of the movies. if they do the movie will suck

  11. alice says:

  13. trixie says:

omg if vanessa was leah she would do a HORRIBLE acting job!!! she wouldnt be able to be tough/mean enough; i just cant imagine her even trying to!!!

does anyone know who is playing Jane?!?!?!?!?

  14. fina says:

i love twilight saga so much
when the breaking dawn’s movie will coming up at cinemas??

  15. Dante_Devil says:

please dont get excited about this film being made! the first one was awful, if you enjoyed twilight the film then am sorry you have to be retarded. the book is good but your better of reading a real vampire book like the vampire lestat. the films should be outlawed.

  16. Whitley says:

Dante_Devil – why would you even come on here and say something like that? As you can clearly see everyone on this site loves the Twilight Saga and Robert and Kristin & we all support them whole heartedly, and for you to post something so rude is pretty ignorant.. I know everyone is entitled to their own opinion but if you wont to be negative why dont you go some where else and do it, b/c no one here wants to hear it. Thanks.

  17. JOCELYN says:

i cant wait for da movie of new moon but also i cant wait till eclipse comes out too!! i luv da book eclipse so i guess da movie will be better!! i also liked da book of new mon but i like more eclipse and breakin dawn!!!

  18. JOCELYN says:

dey better not put vanessa hudgens or brenda song in da movie!! dey will kill da whole thing!! dey should just stay in disney channel so dey wont mess up the movie new moon!!!

  19. Melissa says:

ummm okay I hate to do this but can you PLEASE stop saying ‘dey’ and ‘da’ for They and The… It is horrible to read, it does NOT come off well.

As a older fan, my daughter got me hooked. I am true reader, I read anything and everything, always have. And my 4 kids are the same, I loved all of the books, for a first time author Meyers did an exceptional job being compaired to J.K. Rowling though I’m not so sure, but anyway I love the story. The movie was not as good as the book but I don’t know many really good books that go into movies well anyway. The casting was excellent, and the location was right on. There was just so much in the book that they could not describe in the movie, it would have been a 5 hour movie if they had. I am looking forward to New Moon, I really wish they would stick with the original location, but I’m sure there are reasons for wich we don’t know. I think with another director the movie is really going to take off, and as with the Harry Potter series different directors really make or break the movie, I think it will be great.

  21. Alexandria says:

I totally love twilight!!!! I heard the auditions in Canada for native americans was rough (lots of crying and arguing) but it is said that they still haven’t found leah yet and still might not till the next movie ;D so b daring try out if ur native it’s all worth a shot. If anyone has other casting info I’d appreiciate an email thnx :)

  22. jane says:

the truth think about it the movie is never going to be better than the books b/c when you read the book you interpret it with your own thoughts and feelings…anyways the movie was good the way it was organized but what i didnt like was the graphics i beleive tey couldof been more realistic….hope new moon is good too!! and hopefully fanning plays the role of jane!!!

  23. Tatiana says:

I loved the books immensly, the movie was great the first time i saw it becuase i hadn’t read the books yet but after i read the books and saw it again i realised how much they didnt put in like the information about Alice’s past human life.. but i watch it every day because it is my creative movie: when i watch it i create the best art i h ave ever done, i love it. hopefully they put more backround work into the next movies, i dont actually think that Kristen Stewart did a good job of acting at all in this, she’s an amazing actor but she seemed confused, depressed, mean in a way she laughed all of 2? in the movie and her scarcasm came off dry and depressing not funny. She could have done so much better and it was a huge disappoinment, every other movie she’s been in i loved but there was so much she should have done and the lack of it ruined the character for me i had to keep imagining ‘The Book Bella’. i’m going to go watch Twilight now :)

  24. Barbara says:

I agree that Kristen Stewart needed to ramp up her acting quite a bit in the Twilight movie. Her usual facial expressions were confused, frowning, and mouth hanging open. I kept thinking- where’s Bella?? What happened to dazzled?, I forgot to breathe?, adoring?, how did I get so lucky to have him?? The new producers better make an exceptional connection between Bella and Edward in New Moon before the break up or it’s not going to be believeable. I hope they’re listening…..

  25. cheyenne says:

They better not cast Vanessa or Brenda in the movie… They would ruin it; they need to stay in Disney where they belong.

  26. BaToOl says:

UGH!!!they better not put vanessa and brenda in the movie(ugh i hate saying their names). They’ll screw it all up!!!I wanna audition so badly cuz i live in vancouver and im so happy that they came to audition here, but they probably wont let me in…im only ten…lol…and for brenda and vanessa…STICK WITH DISNEY!!!Can u tell me when auditions start, my email batoolkh98@hotmail.com

  27. katie says:

i heard that they were planning to have Dakota Fanning as Jane. I personally hate this idea. She is too young. I know Jane is supposed to look young but not like a frikkin 15 year old. Besides Dakota is not all that scary looking. Sure she looks like an albino that will kill you in your sleep but not scary enough to make 2 old guys more powerful than her afraid. sorry but no.

and Vanessa Hudgens as Leah is probably the worste thing i have ever heard.

  28. Cheyenne says:

Actually Katie, I think Dakota Fanning would be a good one for Jane… Jane didn’t look scary I don’t think until Bella knew what she could do. And as for being ‘too’ young, I don’t think so… I actually almost pictured her younger than 15… just saying.
She also makes the men afraid because they know she can make them crumble into heaps of pain if they get on her wrong side.

  29. chealsea says:

vannessa hudgens as leah clearwater? no way! She is not mean enough plus she would totally ruin new moon omg! That will b awfull y dont they pick me ? I look like a quilete native but im to young to audition im 13 :-( 2 bad. I hope new moon is as good as the book and im so glad taylor lautner got jacob black oh and taylor if u read this…i love u 4-ever! U r sooooo hot and cute and i will really like a pic of u ;-) :-D!

  30. Cheyenne says:

Hehe, the thing about that was… Vanessa never even auditioned for the part… and they’ve already cast the whole wolf pack, including Leah.

  31. Amey says:

Ok, so here it is… The movie in no way did justice to the book… Did you remember seeing the vamps climb trees? I didn’t think that they were monkeys but I could be wrong… Also, um… the Itallian dinner? Hello, but I am pretty sure that didn’t happen either. And where was the romance between Edward and Bella? One scene? Oh and let me remind everyone about the scene in town where she gets the book… they didn’t corner her where it showed and she was walking down a long street that led to her crossing streets and Edward racing toward her in those streets but what do I know? I mean, I am only an avid fan of the books. Even if you read the stuff that is said from the actress that played Bella herself, even she said that there wasn’t enough money to pay for the props and such that they needed… They weren’t prepared for this movie. Oh and here’s an idea… maybe (Edward) can actually stop QQ’ing and put the contacts back in, read the book and act like he cares about the part… or else find someone else to play the role. Btw, Bella… should pick the book up and read it too. I mean don’t get me wrong, it was nice to have the book in (movie form) but it didn’t do the book justice. Oh, and I don’t want to hear anyone say, “well the movies aren’t as good as the books” HELLO! WAS I THE ONLY ONE THAT SAW HARRY POTTER? Maybe if Stephanie Meyers would have cared about holding up the high standards of the book and passed that onto the movie as Harry Potters author did, then this movie wouldn’t have been missing so much detail. How do they plan on tying together what all they missed from Twilight to New Moon? Anyways, think what you want but those of you who are actual fans of the book will agree with me. If the movie was so great why did it bomb in theaters and get pulled so quick?

  32. Cheyenne says:

First of all… they had a shitty budget… they weren’t sure that the movie was going to sell well so they didn’t HAVE the money to spend to make it better.
And it’s not fair to compare it to Harry Potter… the first two books were WAY shorter than Twilight and on the third the movies went WAYYY down in quality…
It DID NOT BOMB… It got the best returns of ANY movie in 2008. I know… I looked.

  33. Sherry says:

Amey, you say you read the books but don’t remember Edward and Bella going to dinner after he rescued her?

I am personally glad they are changing directors. In Twilight, my daughter and I would watch the scenes that were supposed to be serious but we would end up laughing because of the way they were filmed ended up making them look comical. Like the scene where Carlisle changes Edward… his face is hysterical. Also, I know that a lot of directors are a little “out there” but watching the special features with Catherine was painful. She acted like a little girl the whole time.

I hope also that they work on Kristen’s acting. The Bella in my mind wasn’t twitchy and nervous. Of course she acts the same way in interviews. The only other movie I remember her in was Zathura and she didn’t act like that there so maybe she can change. LOL

One more tiny complaint. I didn’t imagine Edwards marble like features including a 5 o’clock shadow.

I loved the casting for Jacob, Carlisle, Jasper, & Alice though. Oh yea and I would die for Rosalies figure.

I can’t wait to see what they do to New Moon.

  34. cheyenne says:

I love who they chose for Emmett as well, not quite how I pictured him, but awesome none the less…

I also hope they work on Kristen’s acting, she was better when she was younger, but I remember seeing her in The Messenger’s and she was a horrible actress as well. Kristen needs to work on the delivery of her lines as well (and I hope they’re reading this) it sounds to rehearsed.

When they come up on the police station after dinner, she’s like “What is going on here?” Normal people don’t say that, they would say “What’s going on here?” A tiny thing, I know, but it sounds unnatural.

  35. Amey says:

    Sherry,

“Amey, you say you read the books but don’t remember Edward and Bella going to dinner after he rescued her?”

What I meant was that the scene surrounding the events of the “followers” was no where near the same. She wasn’t in a dark alley, she was walking down a dead end street and he found her along an intersection of the streets. If I made mention to the dinner being different… that was incorrect on my part.

I agree with you completely about “Bella”. She said in her interview that she hadn’t read the books and that she didn’t want to because she felt that she wanted to be the unknowing and constantly surprised Bella… honestly, I think they should all be required to read the books.

Carlisle… I wasn’t impressed… too much makeup and not soft enough. I felt that he should have been much “older and wiser” and he looked like a small child that didn’t understand what it meant to “change your look and expression to fit the character”.

I think that Edward was <—says shakily… a bit less proud of who he thinks he is. Yeah, so he died in Harry Potter… but he is so vile about not liking the books or what the story is about and cries constantly about “having to wear the itchy contacts”. If I had been given the opportunity to play in this movie I would have been over the top excited.

I too am very glad that they gave the, “New Moon” a new director. He did a good job with, “The Golden Compass” so I hope he will catch the major changes that are going to happen with this book. Although, I am very worried about how they will tie this movie to the last with all of the very important pieces that they left out in the first.

    Cheyenne,

I agree with you also. Kristen sounds very rehearsed and she needs to relax a bit and personally, I think if they all read the books this would give them a great insight into “who” they are suppose to be portraying.

I hope they don’t get rid of Jacob though. I think he is one of the more perfect fits actor wise that they have.

  36. cheyenne says:

They won’t get rid of Jacob, it’s been confirmed that Taylor Lautner is playing Jacob and they’ve actually alread began filming in Vancouver

  37. lizzie says:

    OK here it comes..
Love Kristen love her but she sounded sooo wooden about her feelings for Edward.. not really connected almost like “let me hurry through this because I think it is goofy.” it’s like she won’t just admit and let herself go and fall for either Edward or Robert. He is sooo good looking and he likes HER lil’old Bella and in real life he is very funny and attractive. She should have some fun with it and stop just saying he is a dork in interviews. Is this 5th grade?

Love Robert but when he utters his first word “hello” to Bella he sounds squeeky like a bad James Dean impression. I read he tried to put a lot of JD in the part. He should sound mesmerizing, smooth, sexy grown up without looking like he is trying.I like when he starts to put his arm around her and smile cool. The stares though made me laugh not swoon. Sorry Robert.
OK the Cullens? If I heard “beautiful” one more time I was going to go get my eyes examined. Jasper looks like he is constipated! A terrible portrayal. Love Alice – love her. Emett a doll and really cute. Esme sweet but her “love” for everyone was thin and very rushed. Their Dad the doc? Peter looked hideous in the makeup. Not stunning and waaaayyyy too young.
Did they have no money for casting? Or did the makeup folks even have a license? THe worst though was Rosalie.. OMG I saw her after the movie in a mag and she is such a pretty gir with her brown hair and eyes. Soo pretty. In the film her description of being the most beautiful girl in the world was awful and soo off the mark I really felt the authenticity just disapeared after that one.

Seriously, get a model who is trying to break into acting. The siblings don’t even talk. What one line each? It is suppose to be mind blowing in a good way when you see these people. Get a Kate Moss or Eva Herzigova. These people do NOT need to talk they just need to be soo pretty your mouth drops. NONE of them do.

I adore Robert Patzz as much as anyone but let’s see him coping alone, his struggle with loneliness. His longing for Bella and his total craziness for her. THe best was him rescuing her and him at the prom when Jacob showed up and he said “I’ll take it from here.” His performance just seemed disjointed. It was like he was trying to fiigure out the character each day he was filming.

I just want to fall in love with them all but I cannot just let go….

  38. stephanie says:

i fell so bad for taylor because most girls go for team edward and i do as well im sorry taylor but i fell bad that u cant compett with robert pattson
    sorry

  39. Sherry says:

I don’t know why everyone goes crazy over Rob Pattinson. I just don’t see it. Maybe if they fixed his hair and maybe if they would trim up his eyebrows. None of my friends or my daughter’s friends think he’s cute. I think Taylor Lautner is MUCH cuter. I would have a hard time choosing between Edward or Jacob though. I actually would want both. Edward in the Summer and Jacob in the winter. ;-) ))))

  40. Bella says:

Bella, Edward, Rosalie, Alice, Emmett, Esme, Carlisle, Jasper, Jacob… Rock!!
Kristen Stewart in the movie Twilight was always supposed to look nervous, wooden, unhappy, and quiet because that is how Stephenie Meyer made her!!!!
Kristen is doing the right thing!!

p.s, my real name is Bella i did not just put it there because i love twilight!

and by the way it is kind of mean saying that Vanessa Hudgens and Brenda Song will ruin the movie.. seriously who ever said that is twisted!

  41. Amber says:

I agree with Bella, it is true, and im not just saying dat because she is ma friend! any way twilight rox!!!

i cant wait till new moon comes out!:):):):)

  42. K.S says:

the movie comes out in December the 20th 2009, and it started filming march 2009 on the 30 it is true!
