Steve Martin and Alec Baldwin to host Oscars
November 3, 2009 by Jane Boursaw
Here’s some fun news for today: Steve Martin and Alec Baldwin will co-host the Oscars on March 7, 2010 on ABC. The 82nd Academy Awards will be held at the Kodak Theater at Hollywood and Highland Centre.
Producers Adam Shankman and Bill Mechanic had this canned response in the press release that landed in my inbox: “We think the team of Steve and Alec are the perfect pair of hosts for the Oscars. Steve will bring the experience of having hosted the show in the past and Alec will be a completely fresh personality for this event.”
The co-hosts had less …read more

Will Fox Searchlight’s Amelia, (500) Days of Summer earn Oscar nods?
October 13, 2009 by Jane Boursaw
In Steven Zeitchik’s Risky Biz Blog on The Hollywood Reporter, he talks about whether Fox Searchlight’s Oscar blitz over the past few years will come to an end.
The studio specializes in offbeat films like “Juno,” “The Darjeeling Limited,” “Slumdog Millionaire,” and “The Wrestler,” and it’s heartening to think that Fox Searchlight films have been nominated for at least five Oscars in each of the past three years, including a best picture nom for all of them.
I say heartening because I always appreciate when the less mainstream films – the quirkier, more character driven films — earn audience kudos. It …read more

Gorgeous Mila Kunis has come a long way since her days on “That 70s Show.” She’s currently in theaters in Mike Judge’s “Extract” with Jason Bateman, and has several film projects coming up.
Three movies scheduled for a 2010 release include “Black Swan,” a thriller co-starring Natalie Portman and directed by Darren Aronofsky; “The Book of Eli,” a post-apocalyptic tale co-starring Denzel Washington, Gary Oldman, and Jennifer Beals; and “Date Night,” a comedy co-starring Leighton Meester, Mark Wahlberg, Steve Carell, Mark Ruffalo and Tina Fey.

Rose Byrne at the 2009 Emmys
September 21, 2009 by Jane Boursaw
I just saw “Adam” last night, and it’s a sweet, thoughtful movie about two New Yorkers who fall in love. But it’s not your typical love story. Adam, played by Hugh Dancy, has Asberger’s Syndrome, while Beth, played by Rose Byrne, is coming off a bad relationship. Somehow, it works, and the two help each other through some rough spots in their lives. Peter Gallagher and Amy Irving shine as her parents. Check it out, if you have a chance. It’s better than most movies these days.
I love Rose Byrne in FX’s “Damages,” with Glenn Close. She’s really a …read more

Actress Drew Barrymore – who can also add director to her credits now – was just lovely at the 61st Annual Emmy Awards last night. Her new movie, “Whip It,” arrives in theaters Oct. 9, 2009, and also stars Marcia Gay Harden, Kristen Wiig, Ellen Page, and Juliette Lewis.
The story follows rebellious teen Bliss Cavendar (Page), who finds her tribe in a group of roller derby girls. But her straight-laced Mom (Harden) is none too happy about it.
More pics after the jump. Drew’s adorable!
Pixar team honored at Venice Film Festival
September 7, 2009 by Jane Boursaw
Nemo, Woody and Sulley are so proud right now. Their creators, the head honchos at Pixar, were awarded the Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement at the 66th Venice International Film Festival. It’s the first time in festival history that the award went to not just one filmmaker, but an entire studio.
What do I love about Pixar? Where to start. The main thing is they make films that are both fun and thoughtful, and which appeal to people of all ages. That’s just what director and producer John Lasseter told reporters yesterday. "We really set out to deeply entertain an …read more
