Robert Pattinson in ‘Remember Me’ Trailer

Here’s some Robert Pattinson news that’s NOT related to “The Twilight Saga: New Moon.” No sparkling vampires in the trailer for “Remember Me,” in which Pattinson and Emilie de Ravin star as two lovers dealing with respective family tragedies.

Directed by Allen Coulter, the Summit Entertainment film also stars Pierce Brosnan and Chris Cooper, and is set for a March 12, 2010 release date.

Trailer for Disney’s A Christmas Carol with Jim Carrey

There’s no doubt that Jim Carrey is a talented actor, and he has such a diverse list of movies on his IMDB page. Sometimes they work and sometimes not. My favorite is probably “The Truman Show,” but I’m not so big on the goofier ones like “Ace Ventura” and “Dumb & Dumber.” My son likes those, though.

Some of his recent movies, like “Yes Man” and “Fun with Dick and Jane,” were nice, but completely forgettable. In a way, it almost seems like he’s trying to find his footing again. We’ll see if he can do that with “A Christmas Carol,” in which he plays the iconic Ebenezer Scrooge (as well as all three ghosts).

Directed and written by Robert Zemeckis, this CG-animated movie also features the voices of Robin Wright Penn, Colin Firth, Gary Oldman and Michael J. Fox. It’s rated G and arrives in theaters just in time for the holiday season, on Nov. 6, 2009. Here’s the trailer. The animation reminds me of “Polar Express,” which isn’t surprising considering Zemeckis also directed that movie.

Is Warners jumping the gun with a Sherlock Holmes sequel?

The release of “Sherlock Holmes” is still three months away (it hits theaters Dec. 25, 2009 – I know what our traditional family Christmas movie will be this year!), but a sequel is already in the works.

I guess they’re expecting gigantic box office numbers, and I hope they’re right. Footage of the film played well at Comic-Con, so maybe they’re banking on that.

In the new pic, Brad Pitt is in talks to star as Holmes’ nemesis Moriarty, and Warner Brothers is set to bring on Kieran and Michele Mulroney to pen the draft. They’re the writers behind “Justice League: Mortal.”

Susan Downey, Dan Lin and Joel Silver produced "Holmes," with Guy Ritchie directing. Robert Downey, Jr. plays the title character, with Jude Law as his protege Watson, and Rachel McAdams as his love interest Irene Adler.

It’s more common these days for a studio to develop sequels ahead of the first film’s release, to get the second one into production as fast as possible. Warners also began work on a sequel to “The Hangover” before the first film premiered — though nothing was set in stone until the box office numbers were in.

Any thoughts on this? Are they jumping the gun with a Sherlock Holmes sequel?

Rage to premiere on mobile phones – wave of the future?

Whatever happened to the good old days when we’d actually go to theaters and watch movies while munching on salty popcorn covered in buttery goodness?

Hopefully, we’ll never lose that movie-watching experience entirely, because it’s all part of the fun of movies. But new things keep being added, and now a movie is actually premiering on cell phones across the country.

Sally Potter’s new film "Rage" will hit iPhone and iPod devices beginning Sept. 21, with viewers screening one episode from the film each day for seven days.

"Rage" offers a behind-the-scenes glimpse into a fictional New York fashion show via a series of interviews, with an accident on the runway sparking a murder investigation. The spin? It’ll be shot as if by a schoolboy on his mobile phone over a seven-day period. Hence, the mobile phone premiere.

This isn’t some obscure indie film either; it features Steve Buscemi, Lily Cole, Judi Dench, Eddie Izzard, Jude Law, John Leguizamo and Dianne Wiest, and debuted at the 2009 Berlin Film Festival. Check out the trailer, and read more after the jump…

In a statement, Potter and producers Christopher Sheppard and Andrew Fierberg said, "We always wanted to incorporate new-media platforms into our release strategy and to find a novel approach to bringing ‘Rage’ to both new and traditional film audiences. We are delighted to be working with Babelgum, who we see as a true partner in crafting an innovative distribution model."

The premiere will be followed by a U.S. DVD release on Sept. 22; an interactive satellite premiere in the U.K. on Sept. 24; the online release via Babelgum beginning Sept. 28; and the Adventure Pictures DVD release in the U.K. and Ireland on Sept. 28.

The red carpet event and Q&A following the Sept. 24 premiere at London’s BFI/Southbank will be broadcast online commercial-free on Justin.tv.

I’m not sure what to think about this. For one thing, watching a movie via cell phone doesn’t really seem that appealing to me. Any thoughts on this?

Johnny Depp and Tim Burton at the Comic-Con 3D Panel

With "Alice in Wonderland" heading into theaters March 5, 2010, director Tim Burton and Johnny Depp (the Mad Hatter) are stirring up some buzz.

The frequent collaborators appeared at Comic-Con’s First-Ever 3D Panel featuring Disney’s "A Christmas Carol" (Nov. 6, 2009), "Alice in Wonderland," and "Tron Legacy" (2011) on July 23, 2009 at the San Diego Convention Center.

"Alice" marks the seventh time that Depp has worked under the direction of Burton, and the sixth time for Helena Bonham Carter, who plays The Red Queen.

A Perfect Getaway gets a release date – August 7, 2009

We’re starting to get more info about "A Perfect Getaway," a thriller from Rogue Pictures arriving in theaters Aug. 7, 2009. Visit the official site here.

It stars Steve Zahn and Milla Jovovich as Cliff and Cydney, an adventurous young couple celebrating their honeymoon by backpacking on one of the most beautiful and remote beaches in Hawaii. Yeah, you know that’s not going to go well.

While hiking the secluded trails in paradise, they come across a group of frightened hikers who tell them about the murder of another newlywed couple. Cliff and Cydney join the other couples and things immediately start to go horribly wrong.

"A Perfect Getaway" is directed by David Twohy, who’s written and or directed a number of films, including "Waterworld," "G.I. Jane," "Pitch Black," and "The Chronicles of Riddick." It’s rated R for graphic violence, language, including sexual references, and some drug use, and also stars Chris Hemsworth and Timothy Olyphant.

Ashton Kutcher in new sex comedy Spread

Ashton Kutcher seems like he’d be a fun guy to hang out with. I wonder what life is like at home with Demi Moore. They must have a blast together. And between those two and Bruce Willis, they’re like the poster family for blended families.

Kutcher is starring in a new sex-romp comedy called "Spread," about a guy who goes through women like nobody’s business. Until he meets that certain woman (Margarita Levieva) who’s bound to change his perspective on things.

Directed by David Mackenzie, "Spread" also stars Anne Heche, Sebastian Stan, Sonia Rockwell and Maria Conchita Alonso. It’s rated R for strong sexual content, nudity and language, and hits theaters August 14, 2009.

Robert Downey, Jr. in Sherlock Holmes trailer

Can’t wait to see Robert Downey, Jr. and Jude Law in "Sherlock Holmes," in theaters Dec. 25, 2009 (that’s a new date – it was originally Nov. 20).

Downey, Jr. plays the legendary detective, while Law stars as his trusted colleague, Watson, a doctor and war veteran. Rachel McAdams stars as Irene Adler, a woman who has a tempestuous relationship with Holmes. Mark Strong stars as their mysterious new adversary, Blackwood, and Kelly Reilly will play Watson’s love interest, Mary.

But mostly, It’s all about RDJ for me. Thanks to MTV for the trailer below. Looks awesome!

Transformers 3 gets a release date

The third "Transformers" movie has a release date: July 1, 2011.

That will set the action flick up for a nice box office haul over the Fourth of July holiday, especially since there are no other release dates set for that weekend (though I’m sure that will change).

The second movie, "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen," will explode into theaters on June 24, 2009. I’d say it’s the most anticipated summer blockbuster at the moment, followed by "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince," in theaters July 17, 2009.

There are some fantastic movies coming up in 2009, and while you never know how a movie will fare until you actually see it, I’ve picked out 16 movies that I think will knock us out with their awesomeness. See if you agree, and add your own in the comments!

1. Watchmen (March 6). “Who watches the Watchmen?” That’s the question in this graphic-novel-turned-movie directed by Zach Snyder. Vigilantes, murders, superheroes, and lots of good and bad karma populate this movie, along with stars Billy Crudup, Jeffrey Dean Morgan and Jackie Earle Haley. 2. Sunshine Cleaning (March 13). This probably won’t hit all the mainstream theaters, but it looks like a quirky film that will hit all the right notes. Amy Adams is a single mom who, along with her slacker sister (Emily Blunt) starts a crime-scene cleanup biz as a way out of their dead-end lives. Alan Arkin plays the doting dad in this dramedy that scored big at Sundance last year. [Official Site]

3. Knowing (March 20). Nicolas Cage and Rose Byrne star in this latest movie about number puzzles. Cage plays an MIT professor investigating a mysterious sequence of digits unearthed in a time capsule. Oh, and the numbers foretell tragic events, like a jet crashing on a freeway. [Official Site]

4. Duplicity (March 20). Ack! Julia Roberts and Clive Owen star in this romantic crime-thriller from Michael Clayton mastermind Tony Gilroy. I’ve heard that Clive Owen watched old Cary Grant films like “His Girl Friday” to get the fast-talking witty banter down to a science. [Trailer] [Official Site]

5. Monsters vs. Aliens (March 27). Reese Witherspoon, Hugh Laurie, Will Arnett, and Seth Rogen star in this animated 3D flick from DreamWorks about, you guessed it, monsters who are called upon to battle a group of aliens who’ve invaded Earth. 6. Fast & Furious (April 3). Get your speed fix with this newest installment of the “Fast and Furious” franchise. Crash-and-burn stunts, high-octane chases, and plenty of action are in store here. The stunt doubles have all the fun, don’t they? After his release from prison, Brian O’Conner (Paul Walker) teams up with Dominic Toretto (Vin Diesel) to work with the feds and bring down a heroin importer. 7. Dragonball: Evolution (April 8). If you missed the cult manga comics/animated TV shows, you can catch up with this movie. It’s a live-action version about a group of warriors protecting Earth from an evil force. Stars Justin Chatwin, Jamie Chung, Emmy Rossum, James Marsters, Yun-Fat Chow and Ernic Hudson. 8. State of Play (April 17). An overweight Russell Crowe plays a hard-nosed crime reporter investigating a politician (Ben Affleck) implicated in his assistant’s murder. Rachel McAdams and the fabulous Helen Mirren also star. [Official Site]

9. Angels & Demons (May 15). This sequel to 2006’s brings back Tom Hanks as Robert Langdon, a Harvard symbologist working to solve a murder and thwart a terrorist attack on the Vatican. Newcomer Ayelet Zurer also stars. [Teaser Trailer] [Official Site]

10. Terminator Salvation (May 22). Christian Bale plays John Connor, roaming a post-Judgment Day wasteland and gathering an army to fight the dreaded terminators. 11. Up (May 29). Some animated movies just look lame right off the bat, and others look awesome. This one falls into the latter category. It’s a Pixar story about a curmudgeon (voiced by Ed Asner) who tries to escape his life by floating away in a house buoyed by balloons. The only flaw in the plan is the chirpy stowaway voiced by Jordan Nagai. [Official Site]

12. Public Enemies (July 1). Could a 1930’s gangster movie directed by Michael Mann and starring Johnny Depp, Christian Bale, Billy Crudup, Marion Cotillard, and Channing Tatum be anything less than magnificent? I doubt it! It’s all about the Feds trying to take down notorious gangsters John Dillinger, Baby Face Nelson and Pretty Boy Floyd during the gritty crime wave of the 1930s. [30-Second Clip] [UNOfficial Site]

13. Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince (July 17). Harry and the gang return for their sixth year at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. As usual, nothing is as it seems. Harry comes into possession of a mysterious book scrawled with “This book is the property of the Half-Blood Prince,” and learns more about Lord Voldemort and how he got to be so evil. 14. 2012 (Nov. 13). John Cusack and Amanda Peet star in this Roland Emmerich-directed movie about the year 2012, when a global cataclysm that brings ruin to the world and leaves a few struggling to survive. [Trailer]

15. New Moon (Nov. 20). The much-anticipated sequel to “Twilight” continues the romantic and brooding story of vampire Edward Cullen (Robert Pattinson) and Bella Swann (Kristen Stewart).
