Here he plays homicide detective Thomas Craven investigating the death of his daughter, whom he discovers worked for a corporation with ties to nuclear weapons. While she didn’t appear to have direct ties to any cover-ups, it’s clear that something is going down. Especially since other people close to her are dropping left and right under mysterious circumstances.

Danny Huston and Ray Winstone also star, and Winstone especially is a real scene stealer. Gibson has the chops to play a guy who’s grieving over the loss of his daughter and really has nothing left to lose, so goes after the bad guys with a vengeance. The kicker is that since he’s a cop, everyone thinks that her killer was actually going after him.

It’s directed by  Martin Campbell, who also directed ‘Casino Royale’ and the upcoming ‘Green Lantern.’ The screenplay was written by William Monohan, who also wrote ‘The Departed’ and ‘Body of Lies.’ Loved both of those movies, and as with those, ‘Edge of Darkness’ has a twisty-turny plot that leaves you guessing til the end.

Great movie! I highly recommend it if you like crime thrillers. As for Gibson? Eh, he’s still a great actor, even if he acts like an ass sometimes in real life. Here’s a photo of he and girlfriend Oksana Grigorieva at the red carpet premiere in Paris on Feb. 4, 2010.

I saw “The Road” a while back and found it utterly depressing. Maybe “The Book of Eli” will be a little more hopeful. That’s a tough challenge when you’re talking about the apocalypse, but it’s got Denzel Washington and Mila Kunis going for it.

Washington stars as a man fighting his way across America in order to protect a sacred book that holds the secrets to saving humankind. The movie also stars Gary Oldman, Ray Stevenson, Jennifer Beals, Michael Gambon and Tom Waits (who I totally love whether he’s singing or acting).

The movie’s in theaters this Friday, Jan. 15, 2010. Check out the premiere pics below.

The animated movie opens Nov. 25, 2009, and stars George Clooney as the title character, a fox who’s dealing with three wealthy farmers who are none too happy about Mr. Fox feeding his family on their poultry.

The voice cast also includes Bill Murray, Willem Dafoe, Owen Wilson, and Jason Schwartzman. Watch the trailer here.

Roland Emmerich’s tragi-film centers on a global cataclysm that brings an end to the world as we know it — seriously, check out the trailer. I also have a great 5-minute clip with John Cusack front and center.

Until the Nov. 13 release date, here are a few premiere pictures of Cusack, Thandie Newton, Woody Harrelson, Danny Glover, Gilmore Girls’ Lauren Graham, and Chin Han (read my “Dark Knight” interview with him).

In theaters Oct. 23, 2009, the CG-animated film is set in futuristic Metro City, where Astro Boy (voiced by Freddie Highmore) is a young robot created by a brilliant scientist named Tenma (Nicolas Cage). Powered by positive “blue” energy, Astro Boy has super strength, x-ray vision, unbelievable speed, and the ability to fly.

It also features the voices of Kristen Bell, Bill Nighy, Donald Sutherland, Nathan Lane, and Eugene Levy. Kristen’s outfit is adorable, but I have to say, I’m really in love with Astro Boy’s red boots.
