Bruno on DVD: Watch the deleted scene with LaToya Jackson
November 6, 2009 by Jane Boursaw
Right before “Bruno” was released in theaters, the scene with LaToya Jackson was deleted out of respect for the death of Michael Jackson.
But, of course, it’s included in the special features on the DVD and Blu-ray, hitting shelves Nov. 17, 2009 from Universal Home Entertainment.
The movie stars Sacha Baron Cohen as an Austrian TV host searching for fame and fortune in America. During the process, he pranks any and everyone who crosses his path.
Really, though, you’ve gotta believe that celebrities can see him coming a mile away. It’s not like Cohen hasn’t been on TV and …read more

November 5, 2009 by Jane Boursaw
Here’s a new featurette for The Twilight Saga: New Moon,” in theaters Nov. 20, 2009 (check out our Twilight Groupie blog!). For those who haven’t read the books by Stephenie Meyer, it tells a little more about the mysterious Volturi.
They’re the oldest coven in the “Twilight” universe, and they’re the closest thing the vampires have to royalty. They also enforce the law and keep things in order. A few more bites:
Aro (Michael Sheen) is the most dangerous and deadly vampire.
Marcus (Christopher Heyerdahl) can sniff out treason.
Caius (Jamie Campbell Bower) is perpetually angry.
Aro, Marcus and Caius are in charge, with Jane …read more
Bonus clip from Bruno: Pete Rose hangs with Bruno
November 5, 2009 by Jane Boursaw
I just received a review copy of “Bruno,” and since I didn’t see it in theaters, will post a review soon. It hits DVD and Blu-ray on Nov. 17, 2009.
Until then, here’s a clip from the bonus material, a never-before-seen interview where baseball legend Pete Rose sits with Austrian TV host Bruno, played by Sacha Baron Cohen. It’s an alternate scene not included in the film.
Whether you like Cohen’s characters or not, it always floors me how deeply embedded he is in them. Really, it’s hard to believe he’s anything other than the character you’re seeing on screen. …read more
Film Gecko Giveaway: The Men Who Stare at Goats (T-shirt and book)
November 3, 2009 by Jane Boursaw
Lots of buzz surrounding “The Men Who Stare at Goats,” in theaters Nov. 6, 2009. The movie is based on true events as described in Jon Ronson’s 2004 book by the same name.
Ewan McGregor plays a down-on-his-luck reporter who meets a special forces agent (George Clooney), who says that yes, it’s true. There’s actually a secret military unit whose sole purpose is to use paranormal powers for the greater good.
Kevin Spacey, Jeff Bridges, Terry Serpico, and Rebecca Mader also star. No word on whether any goats were harmed in the making of this film (but I’m sure …read more
New clip from New Moon – Bella’s birthday (things don’t go well)
November 1, 2009 by Jane Boursaw
A new clip from “The Twilight Saga: New Moon” has been posted on MTV (and featured on their movie special, “Ulalume: Howling at New Moon”). The scene happens near the beginning of the movie and features the Cullen clan gathered for Bella’s birthday.
Alice (Ashley Greene) is the organizer of the event and the peacekeeper as she tries to smooth over Rosalie’s iciness towards Edward’s human girlfriend. Even so, things don’t go well and turn deadly when Bella cuts her finger, which gets Jasper’s (Jackson Rathbone) hunger up big-time.
The movie hits theaters Nov. 20, 2009; check out all of Film Gecko’s …read more
The second Avatar trailer has gorgeous scenery
November 1, 2009 by Jane Boursaw
The second trailer for "Avatar" is out, and it looks pretty cool, especially the gorgeous scenery. I wasn’t all that excited about this movie up to this point, but now that I’ve seen a bit more, I’m looking forward to it.
According to the official “Avatar” site, the story begins on the distant moon Pandora, where “a reluctant hero embarks on a journey of redemption and discovery as he leads a heroic battle to save a civilization.” The cast includes Sam Worthington, Sigourney Weaver, Michelle Rodriguez, Zoe Saldana and CCH Pounder to name a few. It opens in theaters Dec. 18, …read more
Three clips of Tinker Bell and the Lost Treasure
October 27, 2009 by Jane Boursaw
Tinker Bell and the Lost Treasure is out on DVD and Blu-ray today. Can we ever get enough of that cute little pixie? I think not. She’s just darling, and that attitude!
In this DVD, Mae Whitman voices Tinker Bell, who journeys far north of Neverland to patch things up with her friend Terence and restore a Pixie Dust Tree. It’s all very noble.
Other voices include Raven-Symone, Jesse McCartney, Lucy Liu, Kristin Chenoweth, Pamela Adlon, and Anjelica Huston. Check out the clips:

New Moon clip: You’ve killed people, Jake
October 25, 2009 by Jane Boursaw
Here’s one of the latest clips from “The Twilight Saga: New Moon,” in which Jacob (Taylor Lautner) tells Bella (Kristen Stewart) about his little secret. The two grow closer after Edward (Robert Pattinson) leaves.
I know they’re supposed to be big and scary, but the wolves also look kind of cuddly, like you just want to hug one of them.
The Fourth Kind trailer looks pretty scary
October 24, 2009 by Jane Boursaw
Years ago, I interviewed Bud Hopkins, author of several alien abduction books, including “Missing Time,” and head of the Intruders Foundation. After talking with him, even the most skeptical person would at least start to believe in the phenomenon of alien abduction. It’s absolutely amazing, and that’s what “The Fourth Kind” is about.
In 1972, a scale of measurement was established for alien encounters. When a UFO is sighted, it’s called an encounter of the first kind. When evidence is collected, it’s known as an encounter of the second kind. When contact is made with extraterrestrials, it’s the third …read more
