Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs Preview & Trailer

July 2, 2009 by Jane Boursaw

When my kids were little, one of our favorite books was "Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs" by Judi and Ron Barrett. I think I liked it probably more than the kids. Just the idea of having food raining down on you whenever you’re hungry is a pretty entertaining idea. Ok, my adult-self thinks it would get really messy, but my kid-self says bring it on!

The animated big screen version hits theaters Sept. 18, 2009, and features the voices of Anna Faris, Bruce Campbell, Bill Hader, Andy Samberg, James Caan, Tracy Morgan, and Mr. T. Yes, Mr. T! It’s directed by Phil Lord and Chris Miller, who’ve done some episodes of "How I Met Your Mother" and other TV shows and a few movies.

The official site doesn’t give a lot of clues about the story, other than the raining-food part, but it still looks cute as all get out. And of course, on the site you’ll find fun downloads and games, like 3D Food Fight, Stump the Monkey, and Sticker Studio. Here’s the trailer playing in theaters right now:

New TV Spot for The Ugly Truth

July 2, 2009 by Jane Boursaw

Whenever I think of Gerard Butler, I automatically think of him being all intense and toga-ish as King Leonidas in "300," but he can hold his own in a romantic movie, as evidenced in "P.S. I Love You" and "Nim’s Island."

He’s the perfect foil for Katherine Heigl in “The Ugly Truth,” a romantic comedy about a chauvinistic reporter who gets involved with a romantically challenged morning show producer.

Directed by Robert Luketic, the movie is rated R for sexual content and language, and hits theaters July 24, 2009. Check out the trailers here and here, and watch the latest TV spot below.

Planet 51 Preview & Trailer

July 2, 2009 by Jane Boursaw

Remember that episode of "The Twilight Zone," where the couple gets off a train and ends up in a town devoid of human life and everything seems fake and it turns out they’re on an alien planet and are now the playthings of a little girl? "Planet 51" is sort of like that.

Ok, that might be stretching it a bit, but an astronaut plants a flag on a planet that turns out to be filled with aliens mowing their lawns and barbecuing in their backyards. It’s a mind-twister because the humans are the aliens, and the astronaut is the one trying to get back home.

"Planet 51" is an animated family movie directed by Jorge Blanco and featuring the voices of Dwayne Johnson, Seann William Scott, Jessica Biel, Justin Long, Gary Oldman, and John Cleese. No rating yet, but I’m guessing PG. It hits theaters Nov. 20, 2009.

June 27, 2009 by Jane Boursaw

Here’s the trailer for "Daybreakers," the vampire movie starring Ethan Hawke and Willem Dafoe. It’s the year 2019, and Hawke plays a researcher investigating a plague that’s transforming people into vampires. Check out the poster here. The movie hits theaters Jan. 8, 2010. Nice way to start the year!

New clip from Blood: The Last Vampire

June 25, 2009 by Jane Boursaw

I’ve got a new clip for "Blood: The Last Vampire," which arrives in theaters July 10, 2009. It’s a live-action version of the original Japanese anime feature film from one of the producers of "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon."

Saya (played by Gianna Jun) is a 400-year-old demon-hunting vampire slayer working undercover in Japan for a secret organization, on a mission in the Vietnam War era. It sounds like a little like a Japanese "Buffy the Vampire Slayer." Check out stills, preview and the trailer here.

Sexy, Cute and Funny - The Girl From Monaco Poster and Trailer

June 23, 2009 by Jane Boursaw

girl_from_monaco_poster This looks like a cute, sexy, funny movie; a subtitled French film you might see at a film festival or arthouse theater.

"The Girl From Monaco" is about a high-priced Parisian lawyer named Bertrand (Fabrice Luchini) who travels to Monaco to defend a wealthy woman accused of murder. He discovers that his bodyguard, the scowling Christophe (Roschdy Zem), can be useful in a variety of ways. But then they run into a stunning – and dangerous - TV weathergirl, played Louise Bourgoin.

Directed by Anne Fontaine, it’s rated R for some sexual content and language. Arrives in theaters July 3, 2009.

Six Clips from Public Enemies with Johnny Depp

June 23, 2009 by Jane Boursaw

The release date for “Public Enemies” is fast approaching – July 1, 2009! – and I’ve got a few new clips below. Also check out 9 images, official site info, trailers here and here, and a 30-second clip.

Directed by Michael Mann, the movie tells the story of charismatic gangster John Dillinger (Johnny Depp), whose bank raids made him the number one target of J. Edgar Hoover (Billy Crudup) and his fledgling FBI, including agent Melvin Purvis (Christian Bale).

The story also delves into Dillinger’s girlfriend Bill Frechette (Marion Cotillard), and his gang, including Baby Face Nelson (Stephen Graham) and Alvin Karpis (Giovanni Ribisi). Hoover made Dillinger America’s first “Public Enemy Number One” and sent in Purvis, the dashing "Clark Gable of the FBI.’’

Dillinger reassures Billy at the racetrack:

Robin Williams in World’s Greatest Dad – Red Band Trailer

June 19, 2009 by Jane Boursaw

worlds_greatest_dad_poster Robin Williams has some interesting movies coming up, including "World’s Greatest Dad." He’s had some tough times in recent years, but I’ve always enjoyed his work and complete spontaneity (or so it seems!) every time you see him on a talk show. He really is a true talent.

"World’s Greatest Dad" is a dark comedy from Magnolia Pictures, directed by Bobcat Goldthwait, who isn’t exactly known for doing warm, fuzzy films. You can actually see this movie before it hits theaters on Aug 21, 2009. Starting July 24, see it on VOD, XBOX Live, and Amazon.

Robin Williams stars as Lance Clayton, a man who dreams of being a rich and famous writer, but has settled for being a high school poetry teacher. Daryl Sabara plays his son Kyle, a brat who won’t give his father the time of day. Lance is dating Claire (Alexie Gilmore), the school’s art teacher who refuses to publicly acknowledge that they’re dating.

After a freak accident, Lance suffers a tragedy and suddenly has the chance at all the fame, fortune and popularity he’s ever dreamed of. But will he take it?

Clip from Inkheart: This is Our Way In

June 18, 2009 by Jane Boursaw

“Inkheart” is coming to DVD and Blu-ray on June 23, 2009. I didn’t see this in the theater, but I have a screener copy here, so will do a fresh review in the next day or so. Check out the trailer and preview here.

When Mo Folchart (Brendan Fraser) reads a story, the characters leap off the page, and he has to figure out how to get them back to their own world. Rated PG for fantasy adventure action, some scary moments and brief language, it also stars Helen Mirren and Jim Broadbent. Visit the official “Inkheart” site, and watch the clip:

Blu-ray Giveaway: The Greatest Game Ever Played

June 14, 2009 by Jane Boursaw

greatest_game_ever_played_bluray I’ll say right off the bat: I LOVED “The Greatest Game Ever Played”! It’s the film that made me slightly fan-crazed for Shia Labeouf, and it’s just a great movie.

THE MOVIE: Based on real-life golfer Francis Ouimet, it tells the story of how he beat the odds of his working-class life to play in the 1913 U.S. Open Championship against pro Harry Vardon (Stephen Dillane). Josh Flitter as Ouimet’s pint-sized caddy is a hoot! Directed by “Big Love” star Bill Paxton, it’s rated PG for some brief mild language, so basically a family movie good for ages 7 and older. It hits store shelves on Blu-ray June 16, 2009.

THE GIVEAWAY: One Blu-ray Disc of “The Greatest Game Ever Played.”

BONUS FEATURES: Audio commentary with Paxton, audio commentary with author/screenwriter/producer Mark Frost, “From Caddie to Champion: Francis Ouimet,” “Two Legends and The Great Game,” and “On the Set of The Great Game Ever Played.”

HOW TO ENTER: To enter the contest, simply leave a comment on this post by midnight on Saturday, June 20, 2009. Be sure to include a valid email address. A winner will be drawn randomly. I’ll email the winner for their snail-mail address after the contest ends. Good luck!
