Carla Gugino: "Watchmen" to Include Rape Scene

August 16, 2008 by Jane Boursaw

'Vicky Cristina Barcelona' New York premiere

Carla Gugino recently talked about her role as Sally Jupiter in the upcoming Watchmen movie. It’s not pretty, she says of a “brutal rape scene,” in which the Comedian (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) attacks young Sally, who only manages to avoid getting raped by the timely intervention of fellow mask Hooded Justice.

“It was really brutal. It was brutal to shoot,” she said. “That was one of the things Zack [Snyder, the director] said to me from the start: ‘I really want this to be incredibly brutal. It’s not a turn-on kind of story. It’s bad.’ It’s important that we did that. I think hopefully it will be really powerful.”

Ok, first of all, a pox on everyone who says they’d be turned on by this scene. I mean, really! What the heck!

But I do understand the need to include the scene if it’s integral to the story. And I’m glad for the info, so I’ll be prepared for it when I see the movie.

What about you? Do these kinds of scenes bother you? Enough to avoid seeing the movie?
