"Ben X" Preview and Trailer
August 28, 2008 by Jane Boursaw
Ben (Greg Timmermans) is different. The autistic teen’s life is a universe to itself, where he plays his favorite online computer game, Archlord.
But it’s tough being different in technical school, so as the real-life bullying grows, he Ben devises a plan. When Scarlite (Laura Verlinden) — the girl he meets in his on-line game — comes into his life, things go quickly off-plan.
Directed by Nic Balthazar, this Belgium film opens in theaters Aug. 29, 2008. I doubt it’ll make the commercial cut for a lot of mainstream theaters, but I hope it gets a wide audience in the arthouse and indie theaters where it’s bound to play. I’m always glad to see movies about autism and special needs kids. This one looks sad, but hopefully, has a positive ending.
