Ben Affleck in Talks for "The Town"

September 16, 2008 by Jane Boursaw

gonebabygone Ben Affleck is in negotiations to direct and star in The Town, a dark heist-romance flick for Warner Bros. Graham King is producing the movie through his Gk Films. He’s currently working with Mel Gibson and Ray Winstone on Edge of Darkness, shooting in Boston.

I can’t think of a Ben Affleck movie I’ve liked, so that can’t be good. However, I was bowled over with his directing skills in Gone Baby Gone, one of the best movies of 2007, which starred his brother, Casey Affleck. Check it out if you haven’t seen it yet.

I really think Ben Affleck should stick with directing. Are there any movies in which he starred that you actually liked (and can remember)?

More after the jump…

“The Town” centers on a love triangle between a female bank manager, a longtime thief, and an equally smitten FBI agent trying to bust the crook and his gang before they can pull another big job.

Affleck is rewriting an existing script by Peter Craig with revisions by Chuck Hogan, who wrote the novel “Prince of Thieves,” on which the film is based.
