Amy Adams in Talks for "Leap Year"
October 15, 2008 by Jane Boursaw
I kind of hope Amy Adams doesn’t venture into those dark, dramatic roles any time soon. You know the ones I mean — that actors do in order to be taken “seriously.” She’s so fabulous in lighthearted romantic comedies like “Enchanted,” it would be a shame for her to “go dark.”
Now she’s in negotiations to star in “Leap Year,” a romantic comedy from Spyglass, produced by Roger Birnbaum, Gary Barber and Jonathan Glickman.
Adams would play an uptight gal who travels to Dublin to propose to her boyfriend on leap day, Feb. 29. It’s an Irish tradition in which women propose to men on that day, and the man has to say yes.
But when her trip is sidetracked by weather, she enlists the help of a surly Irish innkeeper to make an unexpected cross-country trek to pull off the perfect proposal in the nick of time.
There’s not much new in the romantic comedy business, so the stories really have to rely heavily on the actors and characters. With Amy Adams, you have to think she’ll hit the mark on this movie.
