A "Ghostbusters" Remake? What the…

September 4, 2008 by Jane Boursaw

ghostbusterss1 What possible reason could anyone have for doing a Ghostbusters remake? I mean, the original was in a class by itself, and I can’t imagine how anyone could top it.

But Sony seems to think they’ve got what it takes to do the job. They’re rebooting “Ghostbusters” and are looking at Gene Stupnitsky and Lee Eisenberg to write it.

The studio has recruited The Office writer-producers to work on a new installment of the 1980s franchise that starred Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Ernie Hudson and Harold Ramis as bumbling ghost-hunting scientists.

More after the jump…

The writing due recently sold a spec to Sony titled “Bad Teacher,” about a seventh-grade teacher who’s dumped by her sugar-daddy boyfriend.

The original “Ghostbusters” filmmakers, including director Ivan Reitman, and cast are aware of the project and involved in its development. Some original cast members might be involved, but the focus will be on a new cast of “Ghostbusters.”

Ok, so I guess it could be good, if they keep the feeling of the original movie and don’t muck it up with crude humor a la Superbad.

  1. Hmm…I think I heard something about this. Probably not something I’ll run right out and see, but then again, who knows?

They can’t do this, this is just wrong. You can’t re-make a good movie and have it be just as good. Not in a rush to go see it, sorry.

Personally, I must say that I hate the idea of Hollywood remaking movies that were clearly good the way they were in the past. First I hear about Footloose being remade with Zac Efron playing the lead role, and now Ghostbusters I heard about a couple of weeks ago on the radio. If Hollywood really has run out of ideas, they need to come talk to me. I’ve got a few they can have. (For the right price.)

This is ridiculous. I don’t understand the point in remaking a nearly perfect comedy that is less than 30 years old. Can’t they continue to make new, original, and good movies without rehashing the accomplishments of people that came before them? I want new, great movies-not mediocre remakes of great movies.

I think this is awesome news …I’d love to see another ‘GhostBusters’ film …and it’s NOT a re-make, but a follow on - a passing on of the PROTON PACKS to a new generation, which seems to be aimed at the 40 Year Old Virgin cast.
Gonna be a great thing to happen …and it’s NOT kicking the original in the nuts, but more stroking them ;))
Looking forward to the ‘The THING’ prequel very much also…

was thrilled to hear that the ghost busters maybe returning. Horrified to hear the untalented writers and producers of the Office will be handling it. Granted Ghost Busters wasn’t exactly high end, but there is a difference between just plan stupid and funny. Comparing Ghost busters to the office is like comparing Shakespeare to crap floating around youtube. Please hiring some real talent, actually since two or more of the original cast are comics, let them write it.

    who the cast should be

    Ben Still - dr.venkman
    Steve Zhan - dr.spenger
    Vince Vaughn - dr.stanz
(martin lawrence or mos def or jamiefox)
    -as wiston zeddmore
    kelli mccarthy - janine melnitz

this movie should be bit darker
different storyline but a better storyline
    - no crude humor
    - keep to the same PG humour
-make sure the actors can play the roles just as funny or even funnier but its hard to see ben stiller being as funny as bill murray but id say he can do it
    -use lots more special effects
-make the ghosts more scarier ,darker, intense

if all this stuff happens we will see another franchise ,maybe even matched with dark knight

  9. steven griffiths says:

or maybe its better for a sequel where they have new guys hired on the ghoster buster squad
and the orginal guys would be retireed and considered the senior ghostbusters but still probaly be shit movie

its best to probaly have ghostbusters 3 with same original actors coming out of retirement than at the end a new squad is hired to take over

  10. steven griffiths says:

    who the cast should be

    Steve Carrel / Ben Stiller - dr.venkman
    Steve Zhan / Fred Armisen - dr.spenger
    Vince Vaughn /Will Farrel - dr.stanz
    Mos def -as wiston zeddmore
    kelli mccarthy - janine melnitz
Meg Ryan / Paige Turco - as Dana
