"8 Simple Rules" Heads to Big Screen

“8 Simple Rules” is headed for the big screen. No, it’s not the one that was the basis for the TV show starring the late John Ritter. It’s the sequel to that, called “8 Simple Rules for Marrying My Daughter.” Both were written by W. Bruce Cameron.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Cameron is adapting the semi-autobiographical book into a comedy with co-writer Cathryn Michon, author of the “Grrl Genius Guide” book series.
Michelle Chydzik Sowa, a producer on the film via 26 Films, says the plot will revolve around a divorced dad juggling a younger girlfriend and two daughters who both get engaged at the same time. No word on other details, but the book’s subtitle, “And Other Reasonable Advice From the Father of the Bride (Not that Anyone Is Paying Attention)” — should offer some clues. It will be published by Simon & Schuster imprint Fireside on April 8.
Cameron, a nationally syndicated columnist, won the 2006 Robert Benchley Society Award for Humor and has won two National Society of Newspaper Columnists awards for best humor columnist. He and Michon previously scripted the 2006 comedy feature “Cook-Off!” with Wendi McLendon-Covey.
